The. Nighttimes variety is made possible in part by a grant from the Pillsbury Company foundation on behalf of Bennigan's tavern. From the food city this is my times where I agree with Jolene but what. I'm really glad that you could join us tonight because it's a very special evening. Tonight is not only the last show of our season but it's the last show of the variety series
and it's been a terrific three years and we have gathered together some of our friends to help celebrate this evening. And we got a lot to celebrate because 13 of the shows that we did this year are going to be aired nationally as of next week did you all know that. So now you have to move to New York or Los Angeles to see the show with us or with us in the studio tonight is Larry long Petero Stratego women who cook and a group that has never been on the show before the phones. So we got all sorts of good stuff for you tonight. But first I would like to welcome back a very special person Michel barber. I'm really glad that Michelle could be with us tonight. You have been living somewhere other than here for the last year. Yeah I'm back. It's great to be good. Really nice to have you back. Higher. Yeah. All right right. I never did
get those I never did get those cue cards straight. OK. Because Norbert holds them upside down all the time. That's the problem. Michelle is going to open with a beautiful song. I don't even know the name of this but I heard you rehearsing it earlier. I did invite my brother. Oh good. OK. Thank. You. All. You.
Know. It's wrong. To claim. It's not. To you. It's not strange Up here it's like I never left during my two seasons as a
variety hostess I had the opportunity to meet some impressive musicians and one of the musicians I remember most is here tonight Larry long Larry is known not only as a songwriter but also as a warm and caring person and that's from the heart where tonight he has assembled some other nighttime variety nighttimes variety performers for how fast we forget. Peter scull Prudence Johnson and journalling battle for one of his own songs is called spiritual love. Please welcome Larry long. Read a mess. Do you. Please A. Bit.
Deaf. Brother. Yeah. It. Was.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That.
Will. Close. A Pole. Dance to. The. Street. That live. Close. By A A A. Loaf. Well Michelle you know last night's show here. I've only been doing as well you know
just this year and I know that you were involved in in the first two years and I was interested in knowing if there was ever any time. Because I know you were in live live like rival right now. Right yeah. As opposed to live on tape which we do now. Was there ever anything that that's kind of scary because if something happens you'd like to build it you know get it part of that right. Is there ever anything that happened live that moment in time to vote for it. I think what I'm trying to think of one of the most and one of the most embarrassing times was when I was interviewing Max Roach who was a marvelous drummer. And I've never wanted to die in my life before but when I asked him I said so Mr. Roach to actually think that the drums are just as much a musical instrument as any other. And he looked at me and I thought Please die right now. Yeah and the other worst one was the last show of the first season and we were running short on time. And I really wanted to get producer Kathy Riley in because she had done so much and she does do so much for the show.
Yeah plug for Kathy Riley and Marian Moore That's right it's own sphere I was sitting at the piano and they're going like this which means hurry up hurry up. So I said I really like to thank you read read read read read read a Bradley rally. It was the worst. Riley's a difficult name Michel that's a hard one to spit out and I can understand why you had trouble with what you know there had been about how many variety shows have there been. I don't know 85 I think it's something like five yeah maybe five shows and I think in that course of time they were telling me today that they've had over a hundred twenty five acts you know isn't it amazing like that you know and so many in such a different range and that's what always with me and so many good people. Real good I to keep it real short it out. I don't know what your head get more shit. You know this is our last show will get we will make a little bit of Minneapolis and St. Paul this whole area is filled with the arts and the support of the arts is so good here in Philadelphia and even New York a little bit you don't have what this area has been a friend of mine Dick Wilson said to me before I left he said. You'll probably be
back and he's right because I need that. It's a word lead to him every day. Well things are related events are fun and one of the nice things about Variety has been that they've introduced many of the acts in the area and honestly it takes three years to be able to get everybody on that when we always eat. OK maybe two and a half yeah we said I'm going to tell him to bury it at a very delicate area. And so we we chose tonight to bring in a new group that has never been on the show before and they're one of the most popular rock groups in this area. They are the poems. Right.
Thing. Why.
Say. Say. ILY. Ha ha.
Me.
Yeah. Thank you. I guess one of the greatest things that happened was this whole
thing and I got involved just that the first started thinking of how great it would be to get all the terrific women. And it was just a concert. How did you feel about that when they when they first put all that it was just it was so much fun. And the other thing I liked about it is that there's no egos. I mean that's a wrong. There's no. Yeah well I thought one of the things was that I had always heard of these people before heard the names for instance and had respect for dinners and Shannon and all of those names I wish I had time to leave everybody but it was so nice to finally be able to meet them as people rather than just you know musicians but they're really good friends.
So this is our last show I think. Help us find a song didn't you. Did you pick this one out. They don't like Jolie No I don't say that. You'll love it. It's a perfect song to end the show it's called to remember. When. You.
Sleep. Tonight. No. That's not. Me.
Let's make it. Real.
You. Bet. You get. It at night. T. How much time do we have let's thank our friends back there Jane Anderson on the keyboard from the drink. Jack Simms Why would I forget they managed to get your share MacDonald on the drums. Kathy Mueller How about that there. Is a point for sure you can help me with this a little bit we're going to just thank everyone that is there for sure there. Yeah thank you.
While that sums it up does it get to experience everyone particularly the all the artists who have shared their talents through the last three years and have been on our show. But I also like to not only remember the camera talents but I think that there are some off camera folks who are the real heroes the people who take over lights and take care of the sound and take care of the cards as he's holding that thing there for me nor for being our floor manager for one. Director Michael rooms has directed the shows for the last three years. Yeah yeah Michael runs it. Gosh R.J. Smith audio Joe Price and and and. Yeah can Who else is there let's name a whole bunch of it. And I wish I could name everybody but and we don't have time for that so please watch the credits because those those really are the heroes those are the people. Then they're laughing at me over there. But that's that's important to watch all of that you bet. And lastly I just would like to say that the people responsible for my being here our producer Kathy Riley and Mary more and I will. Every person here knows how unselfishly those two give of their time to be sure
that everybody else has a good time and if the show was a success and it has been a success and you know I along with everybody else thank you for the opportunity. So moved to Los Angeles in New York I'm watching a show about if you put. It. Me. Me. Me. Me.
