Description
Description
"Set in Plymouth, Massachusetts, in 1637-38, this drama focused on the senseless murder of a Narragansett Indian by an 18-year-old runaway indentured servant, Arthur Peach, and two of his friends. The young men were captured by Indians and turned over to Roger Williams, who promised they would be tried for their crime. In Plymouth, however, there was much controversy over whether a white man should be tried and executed for murdering an Indian. In fact, a trial was held, but the program left the conflict unresolved, turning viewers into a jury, challenging them to come to grips with the issues of justice raised in the drama. 'The Peach Gang' won the American Bar Association's Silver Gavel Award." Quote is from NET Annual Report 1975-76.
