Discusses and demonstrates the Stradivarius violin, the viola, and the cello. Explains the distinguishing features of the Stradivarius instruments being used and presents musical selections featuring each of the instruments in turn. Logically this episode features the Stradivarius Trio and three of the finest examples of Stradivarius instruments. As the artists explain that it takes more than just a fine violin to produce beautiful sound, the children learn some of the secrets of violin making and violin playing. Series Description
The series introduces young people to the instruments in the string, woodwind, brass, percussion and keyboard sections of an orchestra. Violinist Yehudi Menuhin and conductor Thomas Scherman appear as commentators during several of the episodes. Children participate in the episodes, learning about music from famed musicians, including members of the Julliard String Quartet, Stradivarius Society and the New York woodwind and Brass Quintets. The episodes take up the instruments themselves and the music that is composed for them. The 13 half-hour episodes that comprise this series were originally recorded on film.
