- Description
- Description
- Irish playwright Samuel Beckett (1906-1989) is acknowledged as one of the most important and visionary writers of the 20th century. In celebration of the Nobel Prize-winner's indelible mark on drama, important talents in film and television collaborated to capture Beckett's complete canon of plays on film. The landmark project is the brainchild of Michael Colgan, director of Dublin's Gate Theatre, and Alan Moloney of Blue Angel Films. This film of Beckett's masterpiece, "Waiting for Godot," directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg ("The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," "Frankie Starlight," "The Object of Beauty"), stars Barry McGovern and Stephen Brennan, the featured performers in the highly acclaimed Gate Theatre production of the play. Host Jeremy Irons provides commentary and background information on Beckett's life and work.
