- Description
- Episode Description
- Truman Capote, author of the much publicized and widely praised new book "In Cold Blood," which he considers to be his best work, is filmed discussing his "new literary form" - the nonfiction novel. The author reads from his book and explains his motivation for the writing and placing of key scenes. Filmed in such locations as Capote's Long Island summer home and his new apartment high above Manhattan, the episode reveals him as a writer and his feelings about himself as a writer. Discussion of his new book dominates the show. "In Cold Blood" is the story of the murder of the Clutter family in Kansas in November 1959 and of their killers Perry and Dick. Capote spent five and a half years with the story, talking to everyone associated with the case and then bringing his special skill and talent as a novelist to it to create the nonfiction novel.
