The history of public television is traced in this hour-long documentary, which includes rare footage of such early programs as "Journey of the Fifth Horse" with Dustan Hoffman, and "Mills of the Gods," an early documentary about the Vietnam War. The special also features excerpts from many successful series on public television, among the "Realities," "Sesame Street," "The Great American Dream Machine," and "Masterpiece Theatre."
