- Sanford Meisner has trained many of this century's most acclaimed actors, writers, and directors. A founding member of the Group Theatre, Meisner became one of the principal adapters of the Stanislavsky approach to the American theater. In the 40 years that he has headed the acting department of the Neighborhood Playhouse School for the Theatre, he has continually worked to refine and polish the method of training. Among his students were Sidney Lumet, Lee Greant, David Mamet, Gregory Peck, Diane Keaton, Bob Fosse, Grace Kelly, and Joanne Woodward. In this documentary, some of these celebrated students are seen in excerpts from their most striking performances and in behind-the-scenes interviews. Also, there will be a look at his trining of the newest generation of Meisner actors.
