Episode Description
The episode begins with The advocate, a retrospective segment celebrating the 35th anniversary of the publication. The Real to reel segment focuses on the film, Brother outsider, about the life of Bayard Rustin. The Out & about segment covers a SAGE event, Live Out Loud, the Black Like Us launch, Imani Henry, the Food of love film based on The page turner, and Sesame street's new HIV-positive character, Kami. The Cata segment spotlights Native American artist Kevin Cata. The NYPD pink segment features NYPD blue cast member Bill Brochtrup. The Do it yourself segment focuses on female underground rock artists and independent record labels that support them, as well as the Ladyfest music festival, featuring interviews with Carrie Brownstein of Sleater-Kinney, JD Samson of Le tigre, and Sarah Dougher. The Out takes segment with Harvey Fierstein is titled Silly Simpsons, and Martina Navratilova's PSA is about coming out. Nathan Lane and Patricia Clarkson provide the episode's Celebrity IDs. I've got no string by Barbra Streisand plays over the closing credits.
