- AA#66- This collection contains the original field tapes used by WSIU-TV to produce an approximately 10-minute segment for the Wisconsin collaborative series "America's Battlegrounds" for PBS in 1993. The tapes include lengthy interviews in 1993 with surviving figures involved in the civil rights struggle in Cairo, Illinois in the late 1960s and early 70s with civil rights leaders the Rev. Jesse Jackson who led protest marches in Cairo, boycott organizer Rev. Charles Koen, leader of the United Front civil rights organization, U.S. Senator Paul Simon, who investigated the Cairo issue as Illinois Lt. Governor, Floretta Simelton, an original member of the United Front, Cordell McGoy, a black alderman who was a young man at the time of the protests, Preston Ewing, a civil rights leader who photographed many of the events in Cairo for outside newspapers, Jim Wilson, who was mayor of Cairo in 1993, and Michael Seng, a civil rights attorney who left private practice to take part in the civil rights movement in Cairo.
