Abortion was the talk of the Kansas Legislature yesterday, early in the day lawmakers in the house passed a sweeping ban on the so-called partial birth abortions, the measure went back to the Senate, where the bill was changed once again. Kansas Public Radio's Russell Lewis has more on the story. Several weeks ago, the Senate unanimously passed a bill that would ban the controversial late-term procedure known as partial birth abortions. Governor Bill Graves agreed to sign it.

It then went to the house where conservatives put restrictions on the bill that would have banned all abortions in the third trimester. House lawmakers approved it yesterday afternoon, despite warnings from the governor of a possible veto, then, late in the evening, the measure traveled back to the upper chamber for more to pay.
