By hearing which could lead to the closure of this nursing home entered its second day, testimony continued to be less than cheerful. The patient having her hair brushed started crying, it was hurting her, so she started crying and saying, you're pulling my hair and she attempted to push the aid who was pulling her hair away. So the aid asked the orderly who was present to hold the patient's arms so that she could finish brushing her hair, referred to the fact that she had a blinderized high protein diet ordered and I observed that she was given a general tray.
No, I do not know that, but your recollection is, what are these tubes you refer to? The new hour that can be just as reasonable as the reconvene after the lunch, and the nursing home owner's rights would be protected by the Administrative Procedure Act and in which exactly the same issues are to be dealt with. We think that it must at some point be the point of view of the continued coverage by film and your clients if you're ruling, I think that this hearing could not go forth
and fairness to my clients on the basis of that full recognition that you may well go along and take all the testimony that you will. I object to that. I refuse to subject my client to this continued participation and so far as our appearance in this proceeding continues with these circumstances and you as candidate. I observed human defecation on the floor. You did not observe any human being defecating on the floor, did you? No. But it was your judgment based upon your experience, was it that the material you observed on the floor of that basement was defecation?
This is correct. What is the response to the, I think you're going to take those cameras out or answer? Dr. Constable, it's laying during the recess, our position on this matter for the Administrative Procedure Act. As I understand it during the general's office, the hearing's officer is entitled to vanish that which he considers to be disruptive for the matter. The assignment of blame for the death of James Ray Montgomery may never be accurately accomplished. One thing is certain, his mother Pamela needed help and didn't get it. The infant was laid to rest here at Willamette National Cemetery today. Service was held inside because the weather was inclement. Mrs. Tess, what efforts did you make to try to get medical assistance for Pamela?
Well I called all the doctors that she'd given me on her list which was six and they all said that they didn't take well for her patients or that they were full. Then I called with them part hospital and the women there gave me a list and I tried them, there was about eight and I didn't get anywhere with them either. So then I called Multnomah County in the welfare department and was trying to get a list of doctors from them that maybe would take welfare patients and I didn't get anywhere. So then I was told by one woman that I'd have to call and get a hold of her case worker. Well she has no phone and no car means of transportation. So I tried it on my own and as I was trying, I called to get the different phone numbers of they kept transferring me to this one or that one. And then the one lady, I got the information from her and we were kind of disagreeing with each other and so then as we were disagreeing she told me that she'd have to make other
means then if she couldn't find a doctor to have her baby and I asked her where at home and she said yes and I asked her well isn't this kind of cruel because this is what people are on welfare for and she says well what does the girl want for free? Technically yes it is free but I do pay my taxes and I do pay for this and these people are supposed to be getting help and care and they aren't. I think that it could have been prevented the miscarriage of the child. It could have been detected early enough and been prevented and I just couldn't understand why the doctors wouldn't take her because she needed medical help. She didn't know how far along she was or anything. The basic problem rests with the shortage of physicians that exist in this community
and other communities throughout the nation and then I think also the public welfare billing procedures and some of these things have tended to compound the problem. The rate structure is not the same as they would get if they're billing UNI for example. We have nearly 600 staff members and we recently cut over to the new centric foam system. This has been a real help to us on the other hand there are still a few bugs in it. In this particular situation I did check back and found that the caseworker had no recall of having received a call from Mr. Montgomery and also the assistance worker who had not received a call.
All I can assume is that the foam was answered by somebody and this information we're not able to identify who it was. I think it's very unfortunate and I certainly can't condone if this is the way the conversation went I certainly can't condone it. This Reverend Roger Smith said during the service there's a pattern here that none of us understand. In program planning on the solidification of waste what we have done is we have looked
at the tankage that we have and developed an evaporative capacity and tried to plan that so that it would come out that we would be solidified prior to the tank deterioration getting to the point where it would become a major problem. In the light of recent leaks are you confident that that programming schedule is still going to be reasonably successful? One of the things that I'm having undertaken right now is a review of that. While the controversy over nuclear waste disposal will inevitably continue here at Hanford the technical problem is to complete the solidification process before these elderly tanks give out entirely, Jack Berry for eyewitness news at Hanford. I was instructed to go out and do some sort of tongue-in-cheek story on the shortage situation.
Now I'm not really certain how funny the shortage situation is but here's one possibility. It will probably be a while before this old critter is reactivated when there's great demand usually there's new supply but we may be underestimating it as a domestic crisis to get enough people that can't get to one and you got some bad demonstrators.
