Command From the Center for Telecommunication Services, the University of Texas at Austin, welcome to Forum. In this week's program, we present the conclusion of a lecture given by comedian, political, and human rights activist Dick Gregory.
This program was recorded in early 1981 and contained some dated material. First, an advisory. This program does contain some strongly worded political and other opinions. Some material may not be suitable for a younger listening audience, and the opinions expressed in the program are not necessarily those of the University of Texas at Austin or this station. I say to you tonight that you do make a difference, and we can turn this around, as a lot of people can stand up here in front of you and be honest with you and tell you the truth,
the reason they won't, because of your reaction to them. Well, God has blessed me well, I've never cared about what you think about me, and have known for many years that truth has never had to be validated by ignorance. I say to you tonight that you all better work to turn this thing around, and if you're not willing to do that, then I beg you to have fun and have it as quick as you can, because recess is over. And now they've got everybody's eyes blinded because they've got you thinking, well, Ronald Reagan's going to do it, he's going to get them well-fed cheeks. And I'm saying, come on, Ronnie, get them. But Ronnie don't know who the real well-fed cheeks are. The real well-fed recipients in this country is all the Americans that's going to sip cocktails
for lunch tomorrow afternoon and right off on the income tax, then it's the real well-fed recipients. The real well-fed recipients across this country is all in folks that will ride first class on the airplane and right-day tickets off, and if they couldn't write them off, they wouldn't be up in the first class section. The real well-fed recipients in this country is all those folks that eat in these restaurants across this country that you pay between $75 to $250 per meal per person if those wouldn't able to be rolled off on the income tax, those restaurants would close overnight. Those are your well-fed recipients. And now we're going to sit back and let Ronald Reagan pick on the poor. Okay, that didn't happen. The poor will survive, he's going to get the poor on his way to get you. Oh, now we tell him I cut the well-fed, cut the stamps back, cut the food stamp back.
Why are you blaming the food stamp recipients when the food stamps first was hatched? The food stamp program was put together by the super business industry folks so they could sell their products. And we never needed a food stamp in the first place. We needed a nutrition stamp and all you should have been able to buy was food that was nutritionist for your body. Okay, that's all. But they can't make no money selling nutritionist food so they gave food stamps so you can buy Hershey bars and Pepsi Cola and Coca-Cola and all that craziness and you sit by and let it happen and now you want to attack the poor folks that need them stamps instead of the rich folks that have manipulated those billions. So they're going to keep you looking at the poor.
All of them well-fed recipients are just so lazy and shifless and don't want to work. But what this government will never tell you, out of the 26 million poor folks in America, 24% of them is over 65, 50% children, 8% is just able, 1% is blind, 13% is single parents living in homes with children, only 3.8% is workable. Well-fed recipients just cheat. The Justice Department fraud and corruption division could straighten that out in the morning less than 4% of the welfare money is misused through cheat, fraud and corruption and the biggest part of that happens for the folks that work for it, not the folks that's the recipients of it. All of them black folks on welfare, you better get that straight 30% if everybody on welfare has black 56% is white and 14% is other minorities. And I've never been able to figure out that 56% of white folks since y'all didn't come
over here, slaves. But to listen to a lot of white folk complaining about niggas in America, you think that we went over there and you up and just grabbed you kicking and screaming and put you on the boat. You don't go to America and open up banks. Here's the welfare list here, and I'll be honest, I wasn't able to get the latest one, but I will. The best I could do is 1975. Corporations paying no federal income tax. Ford Motor Company made $148 million didn't pay 1 cent income tax. Western Electric made $185 million, $610,000 didn't pay 1 nickel income tax. Buffett Ham still made $255 million didn't pay 1 red cent income tax. Corporations paying less than 10% income tax.
American electrical power company made $254 million paid 1% income tax. All four made $121 million $524,000, 1% income tax. American telephone and telegraph made $5,291 million $529,000 and paid only 2% income tax. I say to you today that you can make that difference, but you better do it quick. You youngsters better organize, I didn't come here to tell you about organizing, that's not my job, but I'm sure organizing is easier than snorting cocaine or smoking pot or going to a beer party polluting your body. When you get organized you better go to the Pentagon and tell them in no uncertain terms if old men make war then you're going to let old men fight war. And all you black folks that think that this system is after us and all you white folks
that think you safe is hard to believe that you white folks can think you safe after Kim Street. One important thing about Kim Street if you look at those pictures what no black folks in the crowd, they can't make like they were shooting at niggas and hit white folks by mistake. They went there with the express intention and purpose of gunning down some white children. You white folks that think you safe? The loose Minnesota, damn near all white town. They polluted the water so bad and the loose they have to pass out drinking water to the whole town. I mean they let the industrials don't their bows, their chemical waste into your drinking water and then they put chemicals in it to clean it up and it cleans it up but what they use to clean up will kill you. Provided through the corporation of the United States Army Corps of Engineers, the Army Engineers giving me drinking water, water and this pack contains four tenths to six tenths
percent milligrams of chlorine per liter and nine tenths to one point five tenths milligrams of fluorine per liter. Chlorine and fluorine in there. Wait a minute there's an article in the Washington Post that say cancer death rates are tied to chlorine in the water. Here's an article in the Dallas Times, Harold that says cancer death rates is tied to the fluoridation of the water and they got chlorine and fluorine and pofolk don't stand a chance. You can tell before they replace you with the little dummy they've got to find ways of getting rid of you.
That's where every now and then you hear on the news where that PBS poly brominated by for now just happens to get into your food it causes cancer. Just happen to get into the chickens into the eggs last year right for Easter. Just happen to get into the turkey feed right before Thanksgiving and yesterday I was sitting on the plane reading the paper and now they tell me that PBS have just accidentally happened to get into the natural gas pipeline which means everyone that turns on the gas stove across this country that stuff comes into their hours and the Iranians is animals. While y'all was watching Iran you should have been watching this case that's working this way up in the federal court. The United States District Court of Northern California. The United States government is being sued by Congressman Leo Ryan's wife, why? Because they have documented evidence that the CIA was in Jonestown on that fatal night.
Matter of fact while y'all was hooping it up over Iran, House panel probed CIA Lincoln Jonestown. There's been a congressional investigation where the CIA have had to admit they was in Jonestown. And in this case here they led all out Jimmy Jones last night when they took the tape recording and played it far where Jonest was saying get Dwyer out of here, get Dwyer out of here or this case this court doctor tells who Dwyer is, Richard Dwyer, he's the number two man in the State Department. What was he doing there? On information that massive quantities of mind control drugs was found at the Jonestown Colony after the fatal incident of November the 18th, 1968. That's what the whole game was about was the CIA trying to find a way and they did, but they had to test it first to see how they could perfect put in mind control stuff into your food without you recognizing and once they got it down pat and they killed everybody.
And cut their bellies open, took their intestines out and put two and a half kilos of hair in and in each body and shipped them back. How many of y'all in this room is the way the fact that this government has been forced to admit that hundreds of millions of dollars of hair and was smuggled into this country from Vietnam sold up inside the dead bodies of dead American servicemen been shipped on. The Iranians are animals. And as far as that election was concerned, November the 4th, last year, were you black folks did feel something, most of you white folks felt something too. What y'all felt is Ronald Reagan didn't win that election. That was a CIA computer ripoff. They have never and never will invent a computer that can tabulate an election that fares for a nation this big.
And it never had been about Ronald Reagan. It's always been about George Bush, okay? But they have made that decision that they're going to put the CIA in the White House. And tell you what, if you're so interested in your right to vote, why don't you prove it? Why don't you decide that you're not going to be happy just having the right to elect, that you're going to have the right to see elect? Why don't you decide if you're going to have the right to vote in this so-called free democratic society, then the president should be elected by popular vote not in December when some electoral parties sit down and decide who the president is going to be. And as long as Americans can pick up a gun running all over the world trying to liberate people, and you don't even determine who your president is going to be.
Because the electoral parties do not have to vote the way you voted at. And 91 years ago they didn't. So you got a bunch of secret pimps who you don't even know that really determines who your president is. I mean, you walk around like, I'm free. You're going to vote with voting machines and if you're going to use them computers to figure up your election, you better start asking for a computed audit. Because what they put in the computer is what the computer gives them back. They got another do with you. You better start asking where they warehouse their voting machines in between elections. Who owns the buildings where they keep those voting machines? The mafia, the FBI, the CIA, the Russians? You better determine that if voting is good for you and dammit on election day should be a national holiday. We shouldn't have to go to work. Why do I have to get up and vote before I go to work or after I come home all tired?
How can they tell you that record crowds turned out in this last election? They told you that so they could cover up that landslide. All the news you heard that day with record crowds is turning out to vote. But now we know how many come out, 52.3% of the registered voters, the lowest voter turned out in history of an election in this country. And Ronald Reagan didn't get but 10% more than Jimmy Carter, which means Ronald Reagan had less than 26%, you can't have a landslide or less than 26%. How long are you going to sit by and watch that trick? All the polls were showing it too close to call that mean Ronald Reagan came winning because if the polls are showing too close to call the polls don't poll black folks, so Jimmy going to get all that. And that 10% that was undecided, now they tell us it went for Ronald Reagan, come on. You ever sit in the restaurant and couldn't decide what you wanted, you get a cheese omelet,
you don't order nothing you he never had before. If you want to have some fun, check out in Sackler-Peter Botanica for 1981. It's been out on the market every since last September, they had Ronald Reagan listed as the father of president. How many of you don't know that? You know the story, Jimmy Carter was told Monday night before the election, he couldn't win, he cried. Now who is strong enough to make the president cry? They're more gangster C.A. You see, I ran for mayor Chicago in 1967, or they begged me not to run. Folks said hey, man, man, Daily will kill you. I said well why, I mean he's not worried about me beating him, no, just the fact you'd run against him embarrassing, I said we'll tell him to kill me.
You see I learned a long time ago that fear and God cannot occupy the same body, one gives way to the other. So about three weeks before the election, the guy came by my house and asked me if I'd take a little trip with him, I'll show you how we manipulate elections. We went into the place where the vote machines was warehouse, he took a screwdriver and opened up the vote machine and he takes a name, John Jones, Dick Smith, if they won't Dick Smith to win, they hook a wire around Jones, John Jones is numb and hook it up to Dick Smith and every time you vote for John Jones, Dick Smith named registered, then they put the machine back and then you go in to vote to exercise your right. In 1968 I was a presidential candidate, I voted for myself. In the City of Chicago County of Cook, State of Illinois, to this day I've never got one
vote counted in the City of Chicago County of Cook, State of Illinois. I didn't mind it but I had a press conference and said to you Americans, anytime they can mess with the candidates vote, I know what they're doing to yours, y'all go on and play your games, play them quick, see I know how they do it, they have the same, they never change patterns, that's why I don't permit cameras in my room, has nothing to do with the camera folks. Every time this government get ready to make a hit, it's always somebody there to take the picture to convince you that it went down the way it went down. They get somebody whose mind has been controlled, they make sure the camera's there, then they go back to their house and there's always a note found where they wrote your name. JFK is shot, there's pictures they find of Lee Harvey Oswell.
They find a diary where Oswell say JFK must die, Robert Kennedy is shot. They go to Sir Handsome's house and there's a diary or JFK must die. George Wallace is shot. They go to Arthur Brimmel's house, there's a diary, George Wallace must die. They always write your name. John Lennon is shot. They go to Hawaii and find a note where he wrote John Lennon's name, same pattern because it's the same government. How in the hell can you be told by the doctor that John Lennon is dead? He was shot seven times with a 38 caliber pistol that only shoots six times. All the witness only heard four shots with John Lennon, but by the time he got to the hospital, three more bullets was in him.
You cannot stand in front of that house where John Lennon lives for three days without somebody just dies in here. The same patterns, the same patterns. George Wallace shot my unemployed dishwasher. He stopped George Wallace for three months, Wallace campaigning in a private jet unemployed dishwasher following him. There's a whole lot of people that love John Lennon, but felt no compassion when Wallace got hit, but the same forces hit Wallace, hit John Lennon. The same forces will hit Ronald Reagan, that's why I'm praying every night that Ronald Reagan can survive it, because when they get here, you next. I say to you tonight, I do not believe we've gone beyond that point of no return, but you got a big job.
This is what FBI files look like when you get your records. And every time I get my records, they keep saying, how did you get them? I say, well, you know, black folks got bad jobs, but at least they got them. You'd be surprised what a janitor will give you for a Stevie Wonder LP. Here's the FBI document dated February 2, February 5, 1965. And under the date, it went to eight of the most powerful FBI agents in the Bureau. It says, subject assassination to President John Fitzgerald Kennedy November 22, 1963, Dallas, Texas, miscellaneous information concerning Dick Gregory. What am I doing in the Kennedy assassination file of the FBI? All I ever say about this assassination is that the FBI, the CIA and the Mafia shot him.
Because of that, they decided they're going to sit me up to kill me. Gregory's background, Bureau files indicate Gregory and the PAS have supported the black Muslims. I get in the FBI files for that. They did himself into the racial movement. Expouses causes and individuals closely associated with the Communist movement. That reason about this, they give the Communist more protection than me. They didn't name them. And now at the bottom, this is the kill. We have long suspected that Gregory is demented. See how to do it when you kill him, you just kill the crazy nigga.
But nevertheless, the comments he has made as other ridiculous and we should confront him and tell him in no uncertain terms that he better stop putting out such good or talk. FBI is not empowered to stop me or you from talking it. And they know that. They know that the law, they know that the law don't permit them to stop you from talking. They know it ain't no force on this planet that can stop me from. So they was talking about killing me. And you know what's so sad about this document? When these 8 FBI agents got the assignment to what they had to do to me in 65, they never knew that I would do something in 1976 that would have more effect on their life than what they would have on mind. Because in 1976, I caught that this book with Mark Lane called Cold Names Arrow, the murder of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
And in this book, we documented how the FBI was responsible for shooting Martin Luther King. And because of this book, Congress had to have another investigation. And so because of this book, they had an investigation and they wanted to talk to all the FBI agents that had anything to do to investigate the Kennedy King assassination. So because of this book, there was a new investigation. Because new investigation, out of these 8 that were supposed to get me, 6 of them was subpoenaed to testify before the new investigation and all 6 of them died before they got there. Okay, the Iranians is animals. Matter of fact, the one y'all did hear about is this top one here, William Sullivan, the number 2 man in the FBI. He get his subpoena in November of 77, but they say before he comes to testify, he decided to go hunting in New Hampshire.
He was shot to death. They thought he was a deer, but what they didn't tell you, he was hit with a 30-yard six with a telescopic sight from only 243 feet away in a day time in an open field with an orange hunting outfit on. Some deer. Yes, the Iranians is animals. And so I say to you today that we can turn this around, it's up to you. It depends on how you look at yourself. It depends on how we treat handicapped folks. It depends on how we treat minority folks. It depends on how much compassion we have for Indians and Chicanos and Asian Americans and Puerto Ricans. The answer is inside of you. Try it. Try getting up one morning and looking in the mirror and realizing what you see, there's not another you on the entire universe, and that makes you pretty special. And realize that that universal God puts you here, there's not another you, you have
a special job to do, and when you live up to your full potentials of the universal order, can anybody manipulate you? How do you find that power? It's not in the library, you don't have to pay for it, can't nobody teach you to you, all you have to do is just go by yourself and sit quietly, and you will feel that energy running rampant through your body. All the wisdom and knowledge that's ever been since the universe, you was born with, don't nobody have to teach you nothing, no more than nobody have to teach you how to grow fingers or teach you how to hear or teach you how to move your muscles. I leave you tonight, I say to you, we can turn this around, we don't have to sit back and let them play this game with us, I say to you tonight, I love you, God bless you, peace be with you, thank you, thank you.
