Description
Program Description
"THE GOOD OLD DAYS OF RADIO was designed as a 'Docutainment Program' (documentary/entertainment/information) for the Membership Convention of Public Broadcasting Stations which met in Los Angeles on February 9, 1976. It was conceived as a theatrical production that could be recorded and later broadcast on the PBS network. The theme was 'The First Fifty Years of Radio' -- a suitable subject for a broadcasters' convention and, although difficult to visualize, would provide a historical and hopefully entertaining program for the home viewer. Fifty stars from THE GOOD OLD DAYS OF RADIO appear in person [interspersed] with mini-documentaries, rare film clips, comedy sketches, and performance segments by Steve Allen, Les Brown and the Band of Renown, Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy, Helen O'Connell, Lawrence Welk and many more. Gulf Oil underwrote the program which was produced by Loring d'Usseau, directed by Marty Pasetta and written by Hal Kanter and Don Bresnahan."--1976 Peabody Awards entry form.
