- A puppets eye view of the 35th Annual Festival of the Puppeteers of America, held at the University of Connecticut, at Storrs, the week of August 16-21. Hosted by a character called DEAN, a creation of Carroll Spinney, it had a broad and varied cast including a beguiling alley cat named Picklepuss (another creation of Puppeteer Carroll Spinney), who leads the youngsters in an hour long journey. It features performances by some of the worlds leading puppeteers as well as some inside views of the entire gathering. Dick Meyers Puppet Theater, including Beauty and the Beast and Dick Whittingtons cat, the Jokers from Goetenburg, Sweden, The Empire State Puppet Theater, The B-Gay Puppet Theater, The Smithsonian Puppet Theater, Leo Velleman of the Canadian Puppet Festival, Punch and Judy performances created by Carroll Spinney, a visit with Wallingford Walrus III, a character of Jim Menke, and a part of a production by the Connecticut Puppet Theater of Love for Three Oranges, are among the Puppets and Puppeteers who appear.
