- Series Description
- Magic Doorways are stories written and told by Betty Girling, director of the Minnesota School of the Air, especially for imaginative children. They are invited to meet Betty at the Story Wagon for her stories of people like themselves, stories of mythical royalty, stories of things and stories of flowers. One of the basic ideas of the series is the belief that the imaginative children's television can, with animal props, suggest the story without depriving the child of the embroidery of his own imagination. The emphasis then is not on "recreating" situations, but on maintaining a spirit and setting though which suggestions will serve to stimulate the varied personalities of the audience. Magic Doorways was produced for the NET by KUOM, the University of Minnesota. This series of 65 fifteen-minute episodes was originally shot in black and white on kinescope.
