minutes we've traveled our world examine the disgust and savored knows are germane years and then let's pull back from his close up view of the man and try once more to put him and his polling place into perspective in the past and still largely unknown you know he came here we know that our son is itself just one of ten billion dollars in one detectable humans are full of space age question anyone asking them through the ages the other worlds like no other men most astronomers are persuaded we should never visit those of the
world or probably willows infants and we are ten years in the time they learn to read and write and will let us give ourselves a glimpse into what lies before us good morning people in the community you're welcome
we don't know we're setting an incredibly important procedures there's one coming up is a special role for turkey this has been waiting for for twenty seven years waiting and working to make it come true it's the first test flight of the saturn five apollo spacecraft vehicle that before nineteen seventy eight we'll take man to them look i'm david rohde and eighty david thanks they
do so he helped design a home for this giant vehicle assembly building in store is a large enough to slide the un building true that as a matter of fact you could put laurie when buildings inside and still have room to spare now in a sense started it has needed a baby carriage so you had one day it's the size of a football field and it weighs twenty five hundred ton because of the quality and that's just one of those calls carrying six thousand tons of rock that spacecraft and more will launch or three miles from the biggest building in the world to launch pad thirty nine that's the spot where about three months from now the rocket will be rolled into space on the first of at least three test flights to pave the way still it's been a dream of this size doesn't happen a lot during the years that he's run the kennedy space center this has some of a handpicked group of people specialists in every phase of the spice trade experts and telemetry exotic fuels like control this is the dream has put together here to help him send an
astronaut says within the next few years some of these men have been with him since he made his first launch from get kennedy in nineteen fifty three at that time he likes to recall the whole space port was made up of one it launches earth and one points of the city in the middle of a florida swamp today less than fifteen years later that was one hundred and forty thousand acres basements leaders hope to make this television program possible that was at seventeen when his team launched the early bird and lanny bird communication satellites in nineteen sixty five is of the same satellites that are carrying pictures and sound the world to twenty six countries across the atlantic and pacific oceans and now within the next one hundred forty days he'll watch the first saturn five apollo test vehicle used in this place carrying what that the confidence of the people here at the kennedy space center the work of scientists and technicians of many countries and the dream
of current events to find the new frontier for money as men prepares to venture into outer space his knowledge of the universe is also being extended by the efforts of the authors of those working on the surface of our well this is the radio telescope that in nevada right now man two hundred miles from the pacific ocean that and not clear the astronomers who study the radio signals from spouse countless billions of miles away the sound here is still below the eastern horizon and it's a fine morning as the astronomers are preparing to take us on a voyage to the limits of the universe a trip to the edge of thought we had sent to receive signals from the most distant object known for that one can go green
well it's a complex sensitive equipment here is needed to magnify the signals from the universe first recipient of human shield then as you know there are a thousand tons of steel and seven about pushing back and finding an experiment one of the world's top like last year and discover the object were just preparing through it has no name they probably have more energy and any uptick in the unit understand that there's the milky way and you have the southern province and the point is now that we are talking about is somewhere here in these regions of the seventies and on this night that got its business in significant spectator but now the
great issues beginning to move across the sky and to give you some idea of what's happening this plot represents the dishes it moves across the sky and when that reaches a huge increase seven minus twenty three we should receive the radio signal it's shown an attack like this might not seem very dramatic that when the mechanical and on the chatham report starts december two after the ride will be singing live signals from something ten thousand million million million million miles away very poor the
pipe he can come as unbearable as insured and they are giving those that knows why is that and seven minus the other
so we end our program looking out through parkes radio telescope into the vastness of space we have only begun to explore yet the most urgent challenges of mankind do not come from outer space they come from a crowded hungry world which we inhabit those challenges will face the newborn baby's we saw in canada mexico mr and the babies and in our a new
generation of common problems and more common than any other generation who changed during our lifetime that'll change but television is barely out of its infancy here we are the day jumping around the world simply by parsing some of the changes dave davies will be others with a new wing and excel in the last two hours twenty six countries joined to watch television organization oh really he came in
we are many he's honest
those at ruane as as he's
an hour at eighty or who it's
been

Description
Program Description
For two hours on the afternoon of June 25, 1967, the world took a step closer to Marshall McLuhan?s concept of a ?global village? as an estimated 500 million persons in 30 nations witnessed the first globe-girdling telecast in history. The all-live program, ?Our World,? featuring pickups from 42 locations in 18 nations, was presented in the US by National Educational Television. Among the international celebrities featured on the broadcast are The Beatles, seen at a London recording session; Bolshoi Ballet premier Danseuse Maya Plisetskaya from Odessa in the Soviet Union; artists Marc Chagall and Joan Miro from the Foundation Maeght in France; Leonard Bernstein and Van Cliburn rehearsing for Lincoln Center?s ?Festival 67? in New York; director Franco Zefferelli filming on location in Rome; and stars of the Wagner Festival in Bayreuth, West Germany. The program, which opens with a view of the earth as seen from a Soviet space satellite, focuses on man?s efforts to solve the problems of food supply and overcrowding, his pursuit of artistic and physical excellence, and his search for the worlds beyond. NET produced the five American-based segments of program: a mechanized farm in Wisconsin for the ?Hungary World? sequence; helicopter views of Manhattan for the ?Crowded World?; the first television pickup from the Moonport at Cape Kennedy for ?The Worlds Beyond?; Bernstein and Cliburn in the ?Artistic Excellence?; and the swansong in the Boston Public Garden for ?This Moment?s World.? Other nations that contributed to the broadcast are Australia, France, Great Britain, Czechoslovakia, Soviet Union, Hungary, East Germany, West Germany, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Tunisia, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Austria and Poland. Four communications satellites were utilized for the worldwide transmission ? three American, one Russian. The services of some 10,000 technicians were also needed to make this, the most complex and spectacular broadcast in history, a reality. This marked NET?s 17th interconnected broadcast since it began interconnection in January 1967. NET?s Washington?s correspondent Paul Niven anchors the broadcast from the Western Zone central control studios in New York. (Description adapted from documents in the NET Microfiche)
