E. The I hope things are in fine shape over your house today and I'm very happy that you're going to be with us again for what's new. I guess I'm dressed pretty much as you're used to seeing me, but for our what's new doing today, let's consider that these are my traveling clothes and just for now, let's say you have on your traveling clothes too. Another program we've done some visiting around this part of the world. These are the British Isles here, surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the English Channel,
up in this direction, the North Sea. This is Denmark here and over here, Norway, and right in here on our outline map, the country of Sweden. Today in Sweden, we're going to begin the first of a number of what's new programs that before we're finished will take us halfway around the world. This is the story of a young fellow about your age who is nicknamed Villa Valley. And not so long ago he and his family were involved in quite an adventure. These were films that were taken as they happened a little while ago, and we're going to hear Villa Valley telling us now what happened then. Since Villa Valley and his family and friends are Swedish, we'll hear them talking in Swedish as it happened then, and we'll also hear our young friend telling us in English, just what's going on. I think it's kind of fun to hear different people around the world speaking their native language, and I think you'll enjoy it very much.
Let's go then, you and I, off to Sweden and meet our young friend. My name is Villa Valley, that's me there, and the other boy is my friend Nisse. Ha! Wait a minute.
Actually, my real name is Vildelwald the Mar, Vildelwald is sort of a nickname. He needs to think it's a stupid name. It's no worse than Nisa Nasa anyway. Whoops. Whoops. They may get out there for you, but may you spill a phone. Yes, I will.
They hire you, you say, by ear-old. He wants to play two, an old guy like that. He couldn't have been much of a player when he was young, needed. He couldn't have been much of a player when he was young, needed. Can't reach it. Oh, well. Gee, I almost forgot my books. What do you think? What do you think?
What do you think? Just what we need for Robinson Cruz, the next Friday. I'm 50 times the player's on Friday. He's going to have to go through, and he's going to have to go through. He's going to have to go through. He's going to have to go through. This is perfect. We could put flute lights on the masks, and the people could watch the play from the quay.
We need to think the bonk belongs to somebody, but that's silly. Everyone knows they just leave these old boats to rock. It's just a waste of time trying to explain to a policeman that you are rehearsing a little bit. He says he doesn't want to be in the play if all the rehearsals are going to end up like this. Well, that's up to him. If he doesn't want to try this part, there are plenty of other kids who'd be glad to take it. Five minutes of six, I have to be home at six.
We're having a family conference today. That's the way we do things in my home. Whenever something important has to be decided, we all sit around the dinner table and discuss it. Everybody can say what he thinks, we're very democratic. His dad is just like a general. He has to say yes or no, sir, to everything. Sometimes he can't even say that much. I was telling this about this book we have at home. It's called psychological advice for parents. I read it all about how parents should let their kids' personality develop freely. I think Nissa should buy the book for his father. Two, three, four, five, six, six o'clock. I have to go.
Hey, the crew, sir. I am in a crew of seven stores. You know how it is. Mom can never understand why I'm always late for meals. Honestly, that's sister of mine. She never lets me forget that I have to drive the dishes after dinner. Everybody else has already eaten. I guess I am a bit late. Any food for the whole year? No. Me and a nug. You know what I want to do today? Any food for the whole year? Now, the family confidence begins. The nalisa says I make too much noise eating. Can I help if there is only hard bread on the table?
My father is a doctor. And he's always talking about people not getting the right kind of food and all that. For the boring thing, you Just trying to get me to listen. What tasks us if we know about UNESCO? And of course we do.
It's a good point. It's a good point. It's a good point. It's a good point. It's a good point. It's a good point. But I didn't know they needed a specialist in the South Seas. I wonder if it's near Robinson Cruces Island? Yeah, see, go. Yeah, how are we done for? Pop this underneath and got the job. Fire, fire, fire. What? That's going to be for your mayor. Yeah, the fence of it. We should go. Because there are no Swedish schools in the South Seas. I think that's pretty dumb myself. Pop says Grandma should stay at home because she's too old.
She is the only one of us who can shoot again. What would we do if we run into any wild animals or sharks if she doesn't come with us? I'm not staying with Auntie Ereda. What a good point. What a good point. Oh, no, thanks. As far as school is concerned, we could do like Lenelisa says. Take a correspondence course.
You don't, Grandma. She can be our teacher. She took Pop when he was small. Yeah, here we can go. I wish we could start packing right now. I wish we could start packing right now. We can't take any small packages. Nor dogs. Quick. That's my dog's name. It may not be very smart, but it would be good to have him along anyway.
It's not my fault that he always bites the wrong person when he tries to play watch dog. You catch the boat in Southampton. Say, across the Atlantic, through the Panama Canal, and then straight over the Pacific to Tahiti. One whole month on the boat. Pokey has got all his cases packed. Pop has got all his cases packed but I don't know how I'm going to put all my stuff in this little bag.
Maybe my sister has room in hers. I have to explain to her that she can carry her guitar and typewriter in her hand. Nothing is a package if it doesn't have paper around it is it? There are only supposed to be nine cases but it looks like there are eleven I wonder
out that tappened. That box. I'll tell you what happened. Quick and I went to sell it when I came across this old box when he saw it he just walked right into it. What could I do? That must be most send me sick. They are grandmas cats.
They would come in handy if there are lots of rats in their heath tea. Now we have to show pop everything we're taking. See I really need all those things. We can take everything we've got here anyway.
We can take everything we've got here anyway. He claims his briefcases are not packages but he carried his tobacco and pipes in the most and not like he says important papers he also says that packing is easy. If you do everything in an effective and rational way, they want the tickets as well as the luggage.
Do you have anything? Up there. It's all the same with Pope. He can't even remember where he was sitting last. He's finished.
He is the most important thing is to do everything in an effective and rational way. When we have a farewell party in Sweden, there is always plenty of coffee and cakes. He is the most important thing to do.
He is the most important thing to do. He is the most important thing to do. He is the most important thing to do. He is the most important thing to do.
He is the most important thing to do. The kids from school are giving me that globe so I can find my way back to Sweden if I get lost. This is going to finish the Robinson Crusoe play but I am glad to help him out with ideas.
He is the most important thing to do. He is the most important thing to do. He is the most important thing to do. It looks like we will have to leave quick in the cats at home after all.
He is the most important thing to do. He is the most important thing to do. He is the most important thing to do. Like he says, the most important thing is to do everything in an effective and rational way.
So our friends are off to the South Seas and Tahiti. And we will be going along with them in the days to come. I was wondering if you were sure what it is.
Until the next time what is new comes your way for all of your friends here in the program, this has all been for saying so long. The name of this program as always is what is new. So next time we will find out even more about the world we are in and the bigger world that is in us. This is National Educational Television.

Description
Episode Description
This is the first episode in another WHATS NEW adventure series produced by the Swedish Broadcasting Corp. this one involving Viller Valle, the nickname for Wilhelm Valdemar Benson, a twelve-year-old boy and his family. (Viller Valle pronounced VILL-uh VALL-ay means helter-skelter.) The episode finds Viller Valle and a friend playing on a schooner in the Stockholm harbor. Like many other children, Viller Valle dreams about adventure in the South Seas. His dreams is nearer to reality than he thinks, for his father, a doctor has been given a position with UNESCO and is to study the nutrition of the natives in the South Pacific. When they hear the news, the whole family naturally wants to go along. But what about the childrens schoolwork? Grandmother promises to take charge of that. Besides, she is the only one who can shoot a rifle. It is decided that the whole family will go along. This decision gives rise to a series of troubles packing, misunderstandings, forgotten tickets, tears, and a last-minute arrival at the train. With briefcases, smuggled cats and a dog, and fishing rods whose hooks get a bite in a fur cap on the station platform, the Bensons finally get under way. Series Description
Whats New is a childrens series that ran from 1961-1973. The early seasons typically consist of multiple segments, each from an ongoing series on a specific topic. Each segment was produced by a separate educational broadcasting station, and the linkage between the segments was produced by WHYY and hosted by Al Binford. In episodes from later seasons the format varies more, with many episodes focusing on one story or topic throughout the entire 30 minutes. (Description adapted from documents in the NET Microfiche)
