Description
Episode Description
This episode examines the body of work by Saul Bellow by tracing central characters in all six of his novels from the first, Dangling Man to the most recent, Herzog. Commentary magazine editor Norman Podhoretz appears to discuss if indeed Bellows heroes dangle or to use a more familiar term in current American literary criticism, why they are alienated from society. The six novels analyzed in the program are: Dangling Man, 1944; The Victim, 1947; The Adventures of Augie March, 1953; Seize the Day, 1956; Henderson the Rain King, 1959; and Herzog, 1962. USA: The Novel - Saul Bellow: The World of the Dangling Man is a 1966 National Educational Television production. Episode Running Time: 27:58 (Description adapted from documents in the NET Microfiche)
