the the The program you're about to see where's the result of a unique cooperative venture between the United States and Yugoslavia. At the time of the Dubrovnik summer festival in 1969, a documentary film team from radio television Zagreb and National Educational Television in New York City filmed a series of musical, dramatic and dance events which subsequently appeared on television in many countries around the world. The program that follows was also photographed at that time. All the events of the festival take place in the natural settings of Dubrovnik, about which George Bernard Shaw once wrote, those who are seeking paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik.
This program of religious music takes place in the great name of the Dominican church,
an inspired setting for the music to be presented. The works of art shown in this film are those in the church. Giuseppe Verdi's Tae-Daeum for double chorus and orchestra was first published in 1898 and ranks with a starboard mortar as one of his major non-operatic works. Verdi was never more inspired than in the choir's final prayer, Tae-Daeum, Giagnare Blomene. His final wish was to have this prayer buried with him.
The conductor, Glessamir Sipus. Thanks for joining me today. .

Description
Episode Description
1 hour piece, produced by Radio-Television Zagreb and NET and initially distributed by NET in 1970. It was originally shot in color.
Episode Description
This is the first of three programs on the Dubrovnik Festival. This program of religious music was filmed as part of the Sounds of Summer series but this segment has not been shown before in the United States. The program is in two sections, both of which were shot in the nave of the Dominican Church in the old town of Dubrovnik. Section one is the performance of Giuseppe Verdis Te Deum. Primarily a composer of opera, Verdi towards the end of his life composed four movements of religious and spiritual themes, which were published individually and under the common title: Quattro pezzi sacri (Four Sacred Pieces). The Te Deum is one of the human of praise and rejoicing. It is performed by the Symphony Orchestra and Chorus of Radio-Television Zagreb under the direction of Kresimir Sipus. Section two of the program is a performance of the Magnificent in D Major by Johann Sebastian Bach. One of Bachs most beautiful works, it is originally intended as a Christmas work, but was eventually changed by Bach and is now performed on almost all occasions. This performance is by the Dubrovnik City Orchestra and the Chorus of Radio-Television Zagreb under the baton of Anton Nanut. The soloists are: Liljana Molnar-Taljic, soprano; Nada Puttar-Gold, mezzo-soprano; Zvonimir Prelcec, tenor; and Franjo Petrudsnec, bass. Works of art shown in the film are in the nave and apse of the church. Festival Dubrovnik (Part 1) is an NET/Radio-Television Zagreb co-production.
