- Series Description
- This series explains the importance and explores the behind-the-scenes process of this modern detailed "nose count." The mechanics of mapping, gathering, sorting and tabulating thousands of facts about our citizens at high speed and reducing the data to a highly useable, all important "five foot shelf" of books is told. Episodes in the series explain how citizens can capitalize on the tremendous knowledge gathered for their own economic and social improvement; the impact of rapid population growth on our culture and a look at how Americans live and make their living as shown by the Census. One episode examines the composition and stratification of our society; another takes a look at the critical problems of city living. The historical background of the census is described also. Finally, the problem of the world population explosion is isolated and its implications shown. Graphic exhibits interpret complex Census data given verbally by Dr. Philip Hauser.
