Description
Episode Description
Murl Deusing begins Living World with a film of a tarantula (the film was made in Panama, then turns to other, less terrifying spiders, such as the garden and crab spiders that spin incredibly delicate webs, and finally to the only really dangerous spider in the US, the Black Widow. These are shown in some extremely detailed motion pictures taken by Mr. Deusing. Mr. Bragg, the Quiet Man, is confronted with some very dangerous objects a typewriter and a long thin rod, with which he illustrates the mime technique of economy of gesture. His improvisation turns him into a television producer and the actors he is auditioning. National Parks takes us to Colters Hell-Yellowstone National Park. John Colter, one of the earliest explorers of the West, was the man who discovered the Yellowstone Park area. But no one believed his tales of rivers that ran hot, geysers that erupted, lakes of mud that boiled, and clouds of sulphur. Not unnaturally, most people suspected he was making it all up. But Yellowstone does exist, and his segment brings many of its unusual phenomena into sharp focus. Assisting Mr. Everhart is Bob McIntyre, chief park naturalist at Yellowstone. The segment concludes with the eruption of Old Faithful. (Description adapted from documents in the NET Microfiche)
Series Description
Whats New is a childrens series that ran from 1961-1973. The early seasons typically consist of multiple segments, each from an ongoing series on a specific topic. Each segment was produced by a separate educational broadcasting station, and the linkage between the segments was produced by WHYY and hosted by Al Binford. In episodes from later seasons the format varies more, with many episodes focusing on one story or topic throughout the entire 30 minutes. (Description adapted from documents in the NET Microfiche)
