Episode Description
This episodes historically significant site is Old Grist Mill in Spring Mill State Park, near Mitchell, Indiana. An important aspect of the agricultural revolution in nineteenth century America was the gradual transfer of the processing of agricultural goods from the farm to the factory. Series Description
History with Herb Hake traces the historical development of the Great Plains and the Prairies. Each episode is set in different locale with four episodes taking place in Illinois, four in Ohio, four in Iowa, three each in Missouri and Indiana, two in Minnesota, and one each in North Dakota, Michigan, West Virginia, Nebraska, Kansas, and Wisconsin. In each episode, Mr. Hake chooses a site of historic significance which he discusses in detail using photographs, books, songs, and his own cartoons for illustration. Dr. Daryl Pendergraft of Iowa State Teachers College served as historical consultant. Professor Herbert V. Hake is Director of Radio-Television for the Field Service Division of Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls. He is a graduate of Missouris Central Wesleyan College and has done graduate work at the University of Missouri, Northwestern University and the State University of Iowa. He originally joined ISTCs drama faculty, but has worked with the colleges radio department since 1942 and in television since 1950. Professor Hake taught history to young people via WOI-TV, Ames, since 1952 when he began a series on Iowa history which is similar to his NET series, History with Herb Hake.
