- Series Description
- Pianist Miklos Schwalb gives a series of four piano recitals devoted to the music of Johannes Brahms. Each episode opens with a brief introduction of the music to be played and then turns to the performance itself. Miklos Schwalb was a member of the piano faculty at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Mass., since 1946. He was born in Budapest, where he began to study piano at the age of six. At 17 he made his debut as soloist with the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra and followed his initial success with study and performance in Norway, London, and Paris. Even imprisonment in a concentration camp did not prevent him from continuing his musical activities. He approached the camps governor who allowed him to leave for two hours each day to practice in a nearby village. Schwalbs professional appearances in the United States include performances with Charles Munch and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He recorded a series of short television concerts for release in the United States, Canada, South America and Europe. This series is an August 1962 production of WGBH-TV, Boston. The 4 half-hour episodes that comprise the series were originally recorded on videotape. (Description adapted from documents in the NET Microfiche)
