Description
Episode Description
On Science Fare Mr. Fischbeck talks about how science - and civilization - need measurements to exist, how the ancient Egyptians determined length and how they devised a means for balancing and leveling the sand for the pyramids. During Coral Reef Mr. Deusing talks about sea stars, jellyfish, and sea urchins. We see jellyfish swimming, brittle sea stars crawling and sea urchins in action. Science Fare is a series of ten segments featuring George Fischbeck, television science teacher for the Albuquerque Public Schools since 1950. Mr. Fischbeck's science programs have been Ohio State IERT winners and Mr. Fischbeck was featured in the Saturday Evening Post as one of the "People on the Way Up." Science Fare is a production of KNME-TV, Albuquerque and producer Wendy Bundy. In Coral Reef, Murl Deusing returns to WHAT'S NEW to examine wildlife - this time in an under seas setting. Live sections of the ten segments were filmed at the New York City Aquarium by WNDT with producer Stan Levy. The underwater sequences were filmed by Harry Pederson. Series Description
What's New is a children's series that ran from 1961-1973. The early seasons typically consist of multiple segments, each from an ongoing series on a specific topic. Each segment was produced by a separate educational broadcasting station, and the linkage between the segments was produced by WHYY and hosted by Al Binford. In episodes from later seasons the format varies more, with many episodes focusing on one story or topic throughout the entire 30 minutes. (Description adapted from documents in the NET Microfiche)
