We should talk into the microphone were slightly better than hearing in just a little while soon after they leave us here in Mount Pleasant they're going to be going on a
rather extensive tour a cultural affairs presentation with the State Department. We'll be traveling to Africa India Bangladesh Nepal and all points west of there no doubt. And they just released their brand new album and they had a long drawn out contest what to name it. And darned if they didn't come up with New Grass Revival. On our latest album and this is the tune that was nominated for a Grammy. As best. This isn't the one. Oh which one was it. Pipeline. This is written by a bailiff like oh we're going to do a cameo. This one OK. Misogyny goes back to the boulevard album just a couple years ago. Has been nominated for zip but I say I still think it's a good tune I don't know. About dub best poker tune by a white band. Would it be. Something good. Anyway we're going to play it for you. And I had involves us getting a chance to stretch out looking at you like you and Bailey hasn't titled this one County Clare. The

You know you. How many people are going to pass the law three days. Wrong rap sorry wrong wrong wrong season. We're going to do one more tune for you where we get to stretch out and everybody takes one on this. And we'd like to thank you very much for being with us tonight. And we appreciate it. We can be back up this way when the weather is warm. Go ahead.
We just want to make mention of the fact that after we get back from our overseas trip which will be in mid-March we begin planning for our. Bluegrass hunger relief project that we were very excited about. We've been inspired by the USA for Africa Hands Across America bread for the world a lot of the things that have been going on the last few years we think of the bluegrass people will get together on something like this so we're organizing this summer. Our Hands Across Ricky Skaggs benefit of week. One invite everyone to get involved in this. It's going to take a lot of people but we don't want any gaps this year. We're. Telling you more about it much later. Thank you. Thank you. He has so civic minded. All in this business we call show. Did he get paid for doing this. This is the Manolo. Off of an album we did about six seven years ago. Almost all Commonwealth and this tune will lead you to jam a little bit for you on it. It's called

all those requests that we've had. Appreciate ask and thanks. Yeah. You're just. We would like to honor the father of bluegrass music tonight Ted Nugent. Iggy Pop. Of course we're talking about Mr. Bill Monroe. Which brings the question to the Father who is the mother of bluegrass. We know Charlie Monroe must be the uncle of bluegrass at any rate we're going on either maybe I'll. Go back you're going to be there. Make up a coffee do you have a knife or we came out here. John's for the coffee generation folks if you're Mel is an outlaw let lift him up. He's totally mellow now.
His voice will sort of nice and he's been jamming with Bruno you know. But he had another cup while we were off for the encore so he's ready you can make it now you can make it through another tender. But it always takes him two cups of coffee for Bill Monroe tunes so here we go with I'm going back to Old Kentucky. The back. Room with. Me when I. Go. To. The crime. But. I make it back. Home I told to go. Back and see a game I'm going to. Find when I. Go. To credit the call. To her. Young. Man Big news. You. See as a. Threat. Of so

Own. I'm going to my job. That's the money. On. My. Go. Greg Schiano. My go to. The bag fee. If. You.
Call. Me. Ooh. We're going to play one more for you that's OK we want to do a tune. That John was talking earlier about our Grammy nomination we want to play that tune for you if you haven't heard this one. By the way if you if you've heard the revival before and wondering why John didn't sing the solo tonight he's very courageous to be battling. The flu possibly. He told us it was the flu you would not also Sam I think we might mention you talking about a man of courage. On a noble quest. We just want to tell the audience tonight that John has.
Come out in public in a series of articles about his joining of M.A. which is of course most anonymous. It's a 12 step program you just can't knock it off. Although once told. He's down to just the top of his head now and. We're hoping by summer to get that thing way down way down. But John hang in there because I know that higher power. Thank. You. Week we got a few new grass records a new song out in the lobby bailing out some solo albums. As does John. We have pads tribute to Helen Reddy the fly only did the songs on this album the Chico wrote without the asking I think it's a good concert. And one Phyllis George to thank you. But the two were talking about were proud of his tune and your biggest thrill being nominated for a Grammy especially in the country instrumental category. Like we're saying we we don't know what country it's from.
But this young man wrote it if that tells anything Bailey awake over there but hey he sang good. If you come in second this thing to get like a half a Grammy. Would be. Just for you inside people you know. I love dancing they have a go. Live long bailiff like with seven by seven. That.
With. Nothing. With. With. With. The fellow. I hope with. More the homo with the Homo the. Morning with. Nothing. I hope. That.
With. With. With. With. With. With with. With you OK with. In the. Book and move. Move move. Move move. Move. Move move move. But. The A. Good.
Cause. Thorney Whew. We've been listening to some great players here on our front porch today. The New Grass Revival featuring bailiff Lakhan banjo Sam Bush on federal and mandolin John Cowan bass and Pat Flynn was featured on guitar. I'd also like to thank an unseen member of their troupe their road manager Richard the Togliatti. If you're familiar with the New Grass Revival you've probably noticed that they sounded just a little bit different today. It seems that their lead singer John Cowan came down with us earlier this week so they had to structure their show just a little bit different. But that also gave us a chance to hear a different side to the New Grass Revival. I'm John shuffler. I'd like to thank you for joining us here today on our front porch. I hope you enjoyed
yourself. And if you did come back and join us again real soon. Take care. Today. The executive producer and host of our front porch is John Scheffler a co-producer and head legal director is Dan Bracken comments about our front porch should be sent to see a new public radio Mount Pleasant Michigan 4 8 8 5 9. I am. Leaving from National Public Radio in Washington. This is no Adams and I'm Wendy Kaufman with ALL THINGS CONSIDERED. He did nothing nothing illegal about becoming a millionaire in your 30s. If I Could this would have been I didn't want it. You have to do it legally in New York U.S. attorney Rudolph Giuliani announces insider trading charges against one of Wall Street's best known investment bankers. That story tonight at ALL THINGS CONSIDERED. Also these stories a tough report expected from the Tower Commission investigating the president's National Security Council and its role in the Iran arms deal. In Moscow demonstrators beaten by police. A new study rebuts administration assertions of arms control violations by the Soviets of a Defense Department are just an all out effort to save the domestic computer chip industry. And for Valentine's Day a menu for
seductive dinner at a more coming up now we have this hour's news. I'm Frank stay show a demonstration in downtown Moscow was broken up again today by plainclothes police. The demonstrators beaten and Western reporters covering the event roughed up. The scene was a repeat of what happened yesterday. A small group has been demonstrating for five days there demanding the right to leave the Soviet Union and the release of a jailed Jewish dissident. Three Western reporters two CBS crewman and a reporter for The Baltimore Sun were arrested today but later released. Efforts to get food and medical supplies to Palestinian refugees in a camp near Beirut have failed once again today despite negotiations between Palestinians and the Shiite Amal militia. The BBC's Jerrold but reports of three days U.N. officials that are being involved in the negotiations with militia leaders originate with the six lorries loaded with food and medical supplies. The fat out it's a good thing in the right way and the food program taking provision to a Shiite neighborhood roundabout
in the end agreement was reached only four trucks. Wouldn't allow badly needed medical supplies to be carried to an already close to boys when they came under rocket fire. They won Laurie was heading for the camp itself the other of the Shiite community I've paid for I'm going to apply by the Iranians won't they show that an Iranian envoy in one of the ambulances was killed in the gunfire. The United States today described the hunger situation in Mozambique as disastrous and called on the secretary general of the United Nations to establish an emergency office for coordinating relief efforts. NPR's Elizabeth Colton reports. At the State Department this afternoon USAID announced that approximately 5.7 million Mozambicans more than a third of the nation's population are dependent on food assistance. Director Peter McPherson said that while that southern African nation has not fully recovered from the last drought the principal cause of the
disaster is the continuing rural insurgency. Mozambique. Is the. The situation there is a political disaster not a disaster made by Mother Nature. Food has not been plain because of the war in many places and distribution has been greatly limited because of the war again. Already the United States is supplying forty eight million dollars in food aid to Mozambique for this year but that's barely enough for only one third of the starving. The U.S. is also calling for a meeting of all food donor countries to coordinate their efforts in order to prevent Mozambique's welcoming another Ethiopia. I'm Elizabeth Colton in Washington. The White House said today it has turned over thousands of documents computer disks telephone logs and other material to the Tower Commission investigating the Iran-Contra affair and presidential spokesman Marlin Fitzwater says Mr. Reagan is expecting a very critical very tough report from the panel that's water says the president wants the commission to lay it all
out and the administration will take its lumps. The chief of staff at the Department of Health and Human Services acknowledged today that President Reagan's proposal to provide catastrophic health care for the elderly is very modest. Thomas Burke said more could be done if more federal money was available. But he expressed doubt that Congress will be willing to go much beyond the administration's plan. Burke noted in particular that the proposal would not cover long term nursing home care. The big problem with nursing home care is that the dollars simply aren't there at this time. This is a step. This proposal should be viewed as a as everyone has said a first step down the road. The problem nursing home may have to be addressed. The average cost of nursing home care is twenty two thousand dollars a year. A massive student protest erupted into violence today in downtown Madrid. Thousands of students descended on the capital to demonstrate against the government's refusal to scrap college entrance exams. This is NPR in Washington. Prices rose sharply in active trading on Wall Street today
the Dow Jones industrial average jumped more than 17 and a half points to close at twenty one eighty three point thirty five. Advances lead declines two to one more than one hundred eighty five million shares changed hands. The average price of a share on the New York Exchange gained 51 cents. A Wall Street executive today pleaded guilty to two felony counts related to illegal insider trading. MARTIN Siegel used to work for the investment firm of Kidder Peabody and company. SIEGEL who moved to Drexel Mbare last year pleaded guilty to conspiracy and tax evasion charges in an alleged swap of information between employees of Kidder Peabody and Goldman Sachs and company and Forsman director Gary Lynch of the Securities and Exchange Commission says he believes the recent crackdown on insider trading will restore credibility to the trading industry. I think the most important doctrinal fact of insider trading that was just the lack of confidence that it could provoke on behalf of some investors the fact that it's now being exposed I think should be viewed as a positive development for the securities industry
and for investors. Yesterday a current and a former vice president for Kidder Peabody and a partner at Goldman Sachs and company.
