- We're ramping up for the 2010 World Cup which starts next Friday, June 11th. We'll talk with the author of the book Laduma! Soccer, Politics, and Society in South Africa, about what it means for South Africa to host the Cup. We also quiz our listeners on everything World Cup, so call 312-832-3124 to play. Plus, Worldview film contributor Milos Stehlik gives us an overview of soccer in the movies.

- 01 For almost three decades during the apartheid era, South Africa was effectively kicked out of FIFA, the international body that administers all things soccer. It was barred from soccer tournaments because of its refusal to condemn racial discrimination. Now the country is hosting the 2010 World Cup. Peter Alegi is a professor of history at Michigan State University, and author of several books on soccer and South Africa, including Laduma! Soccer, Politics, and Society in South Africa, and African Soccerscapes: How a Continent Changed the World's Game. He is currently a Fulbright Scholar in South Africa and he joins us now to talk about what hosting the cup means for South Africans
