Yeah. You're here now. Testing one two three. OK so I can
say OK what was your first reaction when you saw the damage. I was well I was real surprise of course and all of them said it occurred but also at the same time I think we're fortunate because it looks like a lot of other areas got hit a lot harder than we did. But it looks pretty bad throughout the beach area. Been in contact with anyone in Garden City or a Cheerio if not not. What happens now in Myrtle Beach. Well I think we take a look at where we stand and what we need to do to pull things back together and then start receiving visitors again. Are you with as far as the Chamber of Commerce you know here to an official capacity but how does this affect the chambers were how does it affect the chamber's work. Well we need to let people know throughout the area that you know and in probably days and weeks that different properties will be able to receive visitors ready for
visitors to come and so I think you know I think that'll be our job is to let them know that Myrtle Beach still exists and we're here. Thanks mom. Right right. Just tell me what a little bit about we do it anyway.
Well we're down with National Guard and we're back in a sleigh if we're down here to protect the property we had a problem before. Not so bored of most of the people have been there go a little bit of a least amount of damage. Well we were surprised because we put it where we come from you know to work where we were from. But we've seen some pretty good pretty good side here and a lot of times that on the phone and in the back of the building just a little more regular than that no thing I've heard from service that is a community. Dan is it the rakyat in the middle of the road. They've got you know have that where you know you're right. Like you very well here good luck going to fight. Thank you we appreciate you might just want to test one to test one too.
While Myrtle Beach braced for the full force of Hugo's intensity got off the plane ahead of her. All right came to work on me while Myrtle Beach braced for the full force of Hugo's intensity. Most of the damage was superficial. You kind of are probably getting in a great while Myrtle Beach braced for the full force of Hugo's intensity. Most of the damage was superficial and cleanup crews were on the job early one more time while Myrtle Beach braced for the full intensity of Hugo's force. Most of the damage was superficial. More time while Myrtle Beach braced for the full intensity of Hugo's force. Most of the damage was superficial
with exceptions like the downtown pier. Most of which is floating in the Atlantic. Good. Ready. Yeah. You decided to stay all through the storm. Well for. One reason it was almost too late by the time we decided that maybe
we ought to get out it was almost too late. At least police came by. Order to evacuate. By that time. We just said you know we're going to stick it out. Stick with. It stick with the property. And the couple that. Was with me at the house. Made a major decision you know that there's things that are going to protect and they are. They really want to hang on so. We just decide. Whether. We're the role or the sound or the. Sound of the thing could be heard on the court really started. To hear it coming. And then started to. Get around us. The trees cracking and things falling down around us. Just trying to shake everybody's hand last. We try to left Australia. And. We get to.
The. Problem talks pretty right there. It was all right. It went on and on and on and finally just got. It was just. One funny thing it. Just kind of got really gathering in the morning maybe. Maybe not. You expect more damage. Oh yeah the damage is really limited around our area there. Was. Surprisingly. Little this. Did happen. Around our house we lost a. Tree in the backyard looked like it was going to go through the back wall but it never quite made it. In. The country. Exact it was built overnight. At our house. All right it was about six. Six houses. On our street. They decided to stick so we were all flashing lights at each other process. To make sure that everybody was all right. When it got too heavy. The only thing. You do is just.
Stand. That's if you don't. Change. Rather bright and early. Work it out for you. What do you think.
Beatrice can be tricky if you know. I'll ask you to get a little what else but make sure to
tell me that I didn't even need to tell you why work or anything like that or I work for Sir sad real dry cleaning. I dig going he sounds it for they got messed up my knee is down check them out on Saturdays and this is a it's sick man his heart breaking really just to say all this but I'm so fine for one thing. That they were last lost in a storm that I know we're all in this area here. You've been down here for a while. I've been working here on the beach for about eight years. You never see anything like this of course. Well no I saw the hazel but I don't believe the hazel unless the Danish did this oh he go his left on a flank so what are you thoughts looking around at this is the house in the middle the street over here. Well I really feel sad for the honors that was his put there for their last eight years but put a lot of time and energy. And this was part of the thing and it it makes you say it it really does makes you
very sad to see Surfside garden city rebuilding quickly or is this going to take a long time. Well the mess it is in right now is going to take a while but they get to go to work if they can play down. You know maybe no danger to you but they will get it cleared at very same time. If you talk to any property owners today I've talked to you they're very safe. They're. Safe with me and you know you see everything destroyed like there's. Little. Maclagan and rubber. Bullets.
Anderson. We're here for you to be doing with for the evacuation. In the hands of some friends else and then they told us rather than wade out of there and then we went on holiday and. Stayed out there. And we got lucky we came in we left there about 4:30 in the morning we didn't know they were going to close down the road so we got back in. Just before the close of road so we were able to get that. First thing this. Morning. Were you surprised what you found. Yeah. The radio they said they didn't get. That we got it. We didn't get hardly anything. So we figured we'd have water damage but. That would be it. Got water down. What was your first thought when you saw the house. I. Really worry because like I said we just
ran here and the people that own and they you. Know good friends of. Ours. They live there. They can get back. Like. Look you all are interested. They're. Able to get our furniture out so we. Know we've got a. Place to Live I think lost. Their home. And they don't have insurance. You look behind you and there's there's a house in the road and two houses in the road is a pretty common sight. They were here. You think survival ever be the same again. I don't know. What they were talking yesterday. If it's down like this you can't build back. I think they might be able to sell. The land. And property owners are a lot worse. So the property owners have no insurance here. Finally found them yes they are gonna. Come back Monday. So I lucked out my family all came down with. A lot of help.
I felt. So. Good. Well. I got hit hard at first but like I said right now. Thank you that. We've got luckier than most people. You must. Have something come back. To look at. Your workout. I was starting my own business. But I don't know if the building is still there. They said the government was going to help. People. Out with them. But I am pretty optimistic. About a 14 year old I got to go and she's really good heart. How. Thankful I enjoyed it. Thanks a lot. OK. You were short on the. Left here in what Charlotte was like motel right.
Up 430 more than a mile away. What outside result from 0 to. About your house here. We survived our scratch on the road. But we feel that. The neighbor's house didn't do it. Trees are your fill your tiles. Everything else. That was. Up up was actually living just fine. The trees fell down I was about it. Which section. Little mother of self. Never. Came through with any problem. No damage at all.
