Description
Description
Forty years after Martin Luther King Jr. was assasinated, America has changed, and so have struggles for civil rights. Journalist Juan Williams considers Dr. King's legacy. He says if Dr. King were alive today, he'd see success: a thriving black middle class, and increased equality for women in public life. He'd also confront the debate on immigrant rights and growing economic inequality. Williams says America has lost hold of the sense of unity Dr. King fostered. Juan Williams is senior corespondent for National Public Radio and a political analyst and anchor at FOX News. He was a Washington Post reporter for 21 years. He's the author of several books, including Eyes on the Prize: America's Civil Rights Years, 1954–1965 and Enough: The Phony Leaders, Dead–End Movements, and Culture of Failure That Are Undermining Black America — and What We Can Do About It. Juan Williams spoke in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday on January 12th, 2007 at the Lynnwood Convention Center. The city of Lynnwood sponsored the event.
