Oh. This is Henry Fogel welcoming you back to the Crouse Hinds concert theatre of the Onondaga County Civic Center for the second part of the Syracuse symphony concert a pop concert conducted by Mitch Miller on this part of the program a medley of Cole Porter songs or three years in Hades over at your of Jock often Bach and a Mitch Miller sing along. Oh. I told you a little about Mitch Miller before but I didn't really get to tell you about our pianist David
Ghaleb who began his music studies in Dallas but then became a full scholarship student at Juilliard in both a bachelor's and a master's degree in music. Mr. Gallagher was heard on the first part of this concert playing the A minor piano concerto of envoy Greig was to Ghaleb studied with Beveridge Webster and was awarded the prestigious and would spoil mine award and the Maurice Loeb prize in 1972 he was the first prize winner of the young musicians Foundation Award in Los Angeles. David Gallo has performed recitals throughout this country has appeared with the New York Philharmonic the Chicago Symphony the St. Louis Symphony the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Dallas Infineon and this is his second appearance with the Syracuse infamy. He was also quite this that participated in a number of music festivals. The famed Marlboro festival the Ravinia Festival which features the Chicago Symphony festivals in Aspen Portland and he has also played in Spain and Portugal
toured twice with the music for mongrel ensemble and he performed an all Beethoven program with renowned cellist Leonard Rose in the grosses concert house in Vienna. Mitch Miller is becoming a very interesting figure in the American Symphony Orchestra seen over the past few years when he has started to do these pop concerts and he has performed with many many orchestras including some of the real major orchestras the Philadelphia Orchestra the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He will shortly add to that appearances with other major orchestras including the Boston Symphony and the Cleveland Orchestra. The Buffalo Philharmonic the Minnesota Orchestra the Chicago the Syracuse Symphony the Rochester Philharmonic is a major figure with many of these orchestras as a pop
conductor. He has also taken a very strong interest in fundraising for these orchestras which Miller often donates items to fund raising marathons run by the radio stations in the cities where those orchestras are. He has for example donated as a premium to be sold on marathons with the money going to the orchestra. The condominium that he owns Grand Cayman Island what he does is he lets orchestras sell it to one couple for a two week stay for fifteen hundred dollars which is usually the going rate for condominium space in Grand Cayman Island anyway. And the lucky person who chooses to buy it can tell people that he stayed when they stayed not just at a condominium but at my trial of condominium he has raised. Well you sell that successfully to the Syracuse symphony with
the buffalo and the Cincinnati orchestras. And it's probably brought in something like eight or ten thousand dollars to those orchestras through the repeated sale of a couple of weeks in his condominium. He also appears on a number of these marathons he practically singlehandedly ran one in Buffalo and in general has taken a very very strong interest in fundraising for for symphony orchestras. The Mitch Miller career as I said earlier started simply as an old boys classical oboist and then went on to record company executive sing along conductor and now pops conductor in which he of course combines some of these
other traits a singalong trait or something he brings along with him to our Pops concerts. Besides fundraising for August recess has long made it a practice to take young musicians with him on pop stores and as I said David Gallop is the latest of these but Mark Kaplan Judith Berry ganger represent other artists that he has taken around artist who have gone on after his appearances to establish themselves with with major careers. He believes in the importance of taking a young artist and introducing that artist to many orchestras in many cities and very often the management's Well what conductors music directors of those works will hear the artist and reengage the artist to appear on a subscription concert is in general done an awful lot for music in many many ways. And looking a lot younger than his 66 years.
Hillary is literally trying out for the stage. Who wrote this next overture. You recognize he wrote lots of ballet music. And this is the overture that has the famous cancan also has lots of solos by the all the cats New York of Arkansas and he's off. We owe him. What.

forget what we did last year stuff we played a couple last February. I know you won't mind. The first few hints remember me. Sing out as loudly as you want. Make harmony do anything. Don't worry about singing out of tune because we cover everybody up. You remember. Also remember that you can only make sounds on vowels and consonants don't produce sounds for instance. You know. I. Looking older than I am looking for to put the consonants at the end of the word like to be told through her to say the P.S. I otherwise had to live. And that would be like the steel like the radiator you know. Also.

If you knew Suzy like I know Suzy then you go Oh it's lovely Hilton who had the brass or percussion will answer louder. That you do hear second or which is your answer to their answer of your first goal louder than their answer to your first oh you know what I mean I'll give you the signal all the time. All right. I suggest instead of reading that phonetically with lots of cars in there you know France is a hell and I get letters that I can't remember. But. Don't try to do it phonetically. Be an instrument. Goal. DONE DONE DONE DONE DONE DONE DONE DONE DONE DONE DONE. There you go. Yeah you can be even a little. He's going to tell me it sounds more like my old whatever but anyway be innocent

again. AAA Mitch Miller your Syracuse Symphony Orchestra and the symphony pops concert or anything else with Miller's pop concerts always go with a sing along and ending in the other way that they always do it with a standing ovation from the audience. There's also of course the chorus on this part of the program you heard the wackiest in Hades overture of often Bach you heard a call Porter medley including Rosalie begin with a dream. Wunderbar Don't fence me in the U.S. the other night doctor on the money scam and then you heard the sing along. How to tell you how marvelous you are tonight really sang your hearts out We love playing for you you can see the starkest for such a
caliber of excellence that I. For now I want to have a chance to see them we will. We toured with a whole other program for 10 days in other cities it's become the regional markets of all Central and upper New York and reading. Oh are we prepared this special program for tonight. Because they don't have too much time advertised. But. Music is music and when people come like you did it's come and love it the way. That's a bond set between the musicians and the audience and you can just feel the waves of pleasure and love flowing and that's what music is all about and that's what live music is all about. Records are great but believe me records are not performances. I made my fortune and record but not the way they're made today. You make a
mistake. Just go back eight buyers. Take a piece of tape you know put on splice and put it together. You have a you know you have a thing if you don't believe me ask Richard Nixon I'm nt so.
