Hit the dirt number one for February 6th one thousand ninety two. Hello and welcome once again to hit the dirt. For the past five weeks we have heard Glenn Janks discuss some of the basics about growing roses well in Maine. But as with gardening the key to success and enjoyment rests in large part on choosing the variety of your site and your taste. So now let's hear about some of Glenn's favorite varieties. Which brings me to the next point. Let's turn from General varieties. There are many different varieties only some of which I imagine are the main climate. Can you maybe recommend some of your favorites. Talk about what we're we could talk about. I want her to
write VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY. I have been mostly hybrid for about the ground floor like thing and that a modern health of our That sort of thing. If he were to close your eyes and imagine that road blocks are completely winter hardy Decline and Fall of the kind of winter protection earlier. That's not to say you can't grow them if you follow those instructions for winter protection and make sure they get fed and prune them properly. Nobody can find all of them. There's only a bit that make it through the winter right. Among our favorite hybrid me that is the big it was Rose and I are all centered I think some of which are very fragrant.
Some of our favorites include the old favorite the yellow pink Olympiad which is a very nice red rose for them like sweet frank Queen Elizabeth and very well known and worthwhile pink rose with them. And those three are widely available and many many are three for the purpose of which supplies a great deal of the nursery area also comes out with a new introduction. You're right it would be pretty nice a road called Evergreen which they come up with the greatest thing. We've got another road from Canada. Ring Road like platinum. Beautiful and wonderful. Or it doesn't seem to get very much part of the very
elaborate protection. Yes there are a lot of the writing which don't need any water protection at all. Most of them are if you were to Bible rows they would rubber rubber simply mean category to the for all the other road they could class you could be almost any different kind of very popular these days and growing in popularity every day garden from the dam of the album and the Gallic and some which date back even earlier than that. We have favorites among them and with a completely Hardy don't need any projects you wrote like Hardy. You realize absolute all time favorite among the Gallic and
Rose would be right back. In any readily burgundy color about the album the album Let me double album and he played it with Beautiful me like rambling. The disadvantage of these rows is that they only want one. Now the show they put on during the run period of my modeling and it's definitely worth a place in your yard and it is now as we come toward more modern times there are other kinds of rubber with their attention and debate. Gardner I think particular are some of the rows of wrinkles I bring along a long while to be growing long.
Things are sometimes called the robotics rose or the beach road. Have a great make that happen. Like make it which are delicious by the way be speaking with a hybridized many already existing garden rose to create a very interesting and often very hardy hybrid among them some of them have a getting a lot of them were bred in Europe many of the pitiful right wonderful things for me and I think it's Conrad and wire which are common but right now looks very much like to be true but. I have a red color only very
many of these are available or very become available again. There are three that they're very for Evergreen work you are going to publish the first chronograph subject detail for writing that there are good guys writing this neat. OK some of those varieties sure but would be nice to know of some good nurseries where you can get them.
