Today's county of Wisconsin is located in the southwestern most part of the state. The subject for this program is Grant County. During this half hour University of Wisconsin Extension staff members and county residents discuss extension programs and their county. First office Chairman Fred we're going to talk a little bit about how Grant County may be unique and different than other counties in Wisconsin. We are located Colonel Scott was Carter near Iowa No I. We also have the Mississippi on the West and Wisconsin on the north. And so we have no leaks. We are different in that respect we are strongly oriented agricultural policy but going back. I suppose that the mining history is probably the most outstanding fact that we have here. And of course consequently in those
early years even as far back as eight hundred twenty six The Indians have. A good lead mining here and of course later we have the Cornish miners and we have the English and we have this this type of nationality background which is. Probably similar to the colonies adjoining us of Lafayette and Grant Iowa. But nevertheless we do have a mining background and not a curse in the early history of wheat. Which is somewhat different. I think that probably all of this brings us around to some of the my work particularly has been involved with the Bicentennial Man. A reprint of an old history and of course. The many many events taking place this year in Greene County but probably more in detail on that I'd like to refer to. Barbara Morgan here. Who is working on a recent history of Grant County and it comes from one thousand nine hundred two thousand nine hundred seventy six I believe Barbara is that correct that is what you give folks an idea of what is
your you're working on right now. Yes I'm working on the bicentennial history right now in trying to bring it up to date since the last history of Grant County only went up to 900 and it's really going to be a big job since we have 76 years to convert. But I feel that we've got to start on it. We're going to go into a lot of interesting ideas about Grant County picking up the bat history up to 900 in short
