- Episode Description
- Here and Now, Viral Hemorrahagic Septicemia, Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia is an infectious disease affecting fish once found mainly in Europe and the Pacific Ocean. In 2003, it turned up in the eastern Great Lakes. The state issued rules to control the spread of the virus, but earlier this month DNR fish biologists discovered fish of the species known as Drum dying of VHS in Lake Butte des Mortes. The state natural resources board issued emergency rules forbidding transfer of live fish or bait minnows from the Lake Winnebago chain to other Wisconsin waters. Boaters are required to drain all water from bilges or bait wells before leaving landings. And the board authorized making those rules effective statewide immediately if VHS infected fish turn up anywhere outside the Lake Winnebago system. (with VHS b-roll), WisconsinEye, WisconsinEye has started up this week as a way for citizens to keep track of what's going on inside the Capitol. Creators of the service bill see it as a C-Span style live coverage. (With WisconsinEye footage), A former national Republican Party chair instructed Wisconsin U.S. Attorney Steven Biskupic to investigate what he characterized as "a fraudulent democratic mailing." These developments connect to the ongoing congressional investigation of U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and his role in firing U.S. attorneys. The state's Joint Finance Committee continued to hone the budget this week. The committee narrowly approved Governor Doyle's request that the state taxpayers pick up the tab for an additional 7, 500 Milwaukee students to participate in the Private School Choice Program. Tim Mayor portraits, A gathering at the State Capitol showcased a true traveling exhibit of veteran portraits painted by Tim Mayer. Mayer said he wanted to heighten the awareness of the sacrifice of Wisconsin veterans and their families. His portraits are a memorial gift to the fallen soldier's families. (Includes SOT of Tim Mayer speaking in Appleton and a montage of some of his portraits), Jewish History Month, May is Jewish History Month. Our next guest is a historian who studies and writes about the history of Jewish people in Wisconsin. (With old photographs of Jewish people), If I only had recused, This week, Supreme Court Justice-elect Annette Ziegler agreed to pay fines in order to settle an Ethics Board complaint against her. A separate judicial commission investigation of her objections of her actions on the Washington County bench continues. Both probes are the result of complaints that Ziegler did not recuse herself from deciding cases where she may have had conflicts of interest. The cases in question have ties to a West Bend bank where her husband is a board member. Theres only one person we know who could take all of that and turn it into a song.
