- Here and Now, Tape segment by Frederica Freyberg, The first deployment of a Wisconsin National Guard combat unit since World War II is underway. Hundreds of soldiers from two battalions of the 128 Infantry were part of a giant send-off Thursday, Veterans Day. Our crew flew to Camp Shelby on a military tanker for the deployment ceremony. Taped interview with Congressman Ron Kind on location, Ron Kind's office, as well as the top brass at the Wisconsin National Guard say they will press to make sure our soldiers are well equipped. Tape showing Dale Schultz being elected as majority leader in capitol, new state senate leaders, Musical chairs at the State Capitol this week. When the music stopped, new Senate leaders were announced. Somewhat of a coup, and a top secret ballot, Republicans elected Dale Schultz to replace Scott Fitzgerald as majority leader. A changed scene is a win for moderation, at least among Democrats who applauded, literally, the choice. The clapping was lead by the Democrat's new Minority Leader, Senator Judy Robson. Wisconsin Life Science and Venture Conference, Think one part reality show (Survivor) and one part the business convention (Apprentice). Reps from life-size, hi-tech businesses from seven different states will gather in Madison. Each rep will have 12 minutes to make a power-point pitch. They will be speaking to a room with filled with prospective partners and deep-pocket investors. It's called the Wisconsin Life Science and Venture Conference. The Chair of the selection committee that picked the businesses is Greg Lynch. person of the week, Our person of the week - we picked someone who has done something good, a whole lot of good, over many years of hard work. He just received the Robert E. Gard Wisconsin Foundation Award for Excellence for his dedication to the arts in our state. Next summer he will retire from his formal connection to the arts, but tonight he is our person of the week, the Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication at UW-Stevens Point, Gerard McKenna.
