Good evening and welcome to the upper Cumberland camera tonight. Later on you'll meet the Golden Eagle basketball team the 1994 men's tech team. You'll also learn about a Danish gymnastics team. They're only going to appear in one Tennessee city and that's Cookeville. You'll also find out about a local UFO chapter that has started it's a worldwide information gathering network. But first let's meet the 1994 golden eagle eyes. Tennessee take a golden eagle its basketball team is celebrating its silver anniversary this year and the season is already underway before the first regular season game we visited a practice session with Coach Bill whirls team which was picked to finish second in the OVC behind Tennessee State. Great schedule this year. Course by the time people say this you'll already be back from Hawaii but you'll still have Ole Miss Louisiana tacked some other games as well. Looking forward to playing. Definitely looking forward to playing for the type of schedule that we've had since I've been here and playing the good things only Mike is better. It's a lot better than planned. Not so good teams and women but
you can't really get a feel for how did you really are. OK do you think this team does this year after Monday night we just have to stay on I was watching they're watching that the next day after practice. And just watching it just like this feeling I've never had I haven't had a couple years we just played everybody. Everybody can play the banjo we've got a deep bench. It's a wonderful feeling. You've got a lot of new faces in fact I think this is the most new faces I've ever seen on a good day it was hard to get everybody mixed together and get everything to jail. Well I think we spent a lot of time together that we we really know each other a lot where personally off before we came running to their band I think it makes it easier when you're on the court together to come together as a tame one you know into the personalities and stuff. How did you feel about being picked second in the league. I expected I guess because I mean you did win last year. And you know we'll see. That's all you can say you know we've been we have a different opinion of what they do and
so. Let's have that built Don't you think it's awfully gutless that they always pick the first one last year to finish first began. Yeah but and then I'd like to say that's because though I mean they don't think that they have the same team I mean that in these very mean people last year made way though so I mean I don't really know I mean we have young team I think that might be one of the reasons why we can't match our young players have come a long life just like our average class men have so. Why did you transfer to the Sea-Tac bomb as being close to home I Miss Baron my family friends. I dislike the atmosphere here about the smaller school as a. Smaller teacher student or. Teacher student ratio. What do you think about this your state. I think we can do great things I'm really excited about the sure.
Now one thing I guess people will notice right off the bat you got braces. If you take full of good well that's a tough decision I guess to get braces when you're being banged around this way to keep your lips from getting Yeah. I think anyone who's worn braces is there. What do you think about this year's team that were a lot stronger than we were last year. I feel that we're more experienced and we're a lot quicker. And I just feel like we're a whole lot better than we were last year. You got to play an exhibition game against one of the great centers in Tennessee Tech year old Tyler what was it like telling myself not to be intimidated. And I don't like that I was that she is big and so strong in. She's a really good player but I feel like I have my ground against her. And by the time everybody sees this you'll already have returned from Hawaii. What do you think about the schedule this year. I feel like it's a real tough schedule is going to be challenging and I think that since it's going to
be before our Open say season starts it's really going to help us to get prepared. Give us a chance to get ready for the overstay season. How do you feel this year's team is different from last year. We have more bodies this year than we did last year so we have more potential to do our prince more than last year so when this. Not may not be for which is stronger in tummy areas then more or less last year for your second day are you going to be looking for revenge this year is that going to be a motivating factor for you. Well not so much really begins I think we need to we have a we feel like we have a place in the we've been number one for the past couple years and last year we kind of slacked off I guess we were looking just like you know it was just like a sure win but now we have to prove it to ourselves not only so much
will be in his in his company for us and prove to ourselves that we can do it by the time you get to be a junior. Sometimes practices a little bit tedious I would imagine is basketball still fun or is it with art work by the time you're doing you're in college you get kind of towels I was probably more hard work then but I mean it's still fun and you know it's gone always be fun. What do you look for the shooter legally means to him by morning thing I'm in a mess in road or whatever so that's why I'm looking forward to it. You have probably played against many of the players on this team or were doing when you were in high school. What's it like being their team. Ever Parsons come on is this call is kind of hard to know what to expect but we've come together really well and I think there's no difference now or does one make payments to Simon's plan when those from 10 mil. What does it take to get that team with a group this big.
Biggest group I think a lot of it comes from not only on the floor but off the floor. We do a lot of things outside of the damn together and I think that has a lot there with it and like I said you know we're all friends we all hang out together and that has a lot they with that I guess is going to be a real battle that the guard was the legalization. Oh not really we have something else for the Taman. We have our own. Thing that we do that helps the pain and so it's not really a battle is just who ever going to get the job done we have but one day at this here so you know make it a lot easier. What you do in the offseason. Remember CT world which I'm not saying that this rant a little it's not I don't really work that hard. Was it hard to get back in shape without really just a little run in the morning thanks. Not that bad not bad for you and the pain thing else you want to have more of this I think sad about things and really get started.
What do you think about that your thing. I think you get a lot better in my last year without pay for experience. Do you think it's depth an experience that will make the difference. Yeah I think it will both got a lot of young players that are going to help us off the Banten stuff and I think will be a lot deeper and help us along ground again you're playing a real tough schedule outside of the LBC and everybody says that really helps but doesn't that just wear you out when you play the tough competition in the nation. Not really it just makes it's that much more sad and. I think it'll be better because it will make us buy that much better. Any predictions for this year. I think we're going to do really well this year. Michael Fortier does it have the practice it's been tough getting back in shape. Yeah we did a lot of preseason writing and a little light. But I think we're doing really good. What do you think about being picked second in the you know I think that Lee could become buyers.
And you tell us about the schedule this year about the time everybody sees it she'll be back from Hawaii probably all tanned and looking good for it what about the rest of the schedule. Looks pretty. Well. I guess one thing it time and then bethinking And then what do you expect your role on this team to beat if you practice hard to get a part of that and just trying to get back in the game that I love it. What's the big adjustment from high school to college. Just the physical play it's a lot somewhat physical and. It's hard wired. Can we expect more out of you and stuff. Is it tough being away from home. Not really. And I understand that you actually tried to kill the Tennessee Tech massacre and that is Mike's stops to tell us what happened so we have the stories to tell. She does then temper left and so to this
time I do it bad. Yes and a pass that you made at the mascot in the head and said you were reeling to the floor that you're pretty strong. So then I guess I guess he's in the wrong place. Tell us a little bit about your game I know you played guard. What what kind of game do you play. Shooter passer for a pass I guess because that's what my mind thing was in high school so you got some pretty good people to pass the ball to on this team looks like it. You know you're going to richer this year can you tell us why. Because I've had I had arthroscopic knee surgery and just recently and I found out that I had a 50 percent Tamilian And so what happens is that tough. Yes it is it's really hard coming to practice every day and watching everyone Tyson because I really wish I could be out there. But I guess you're learning a lot about the system the coach we're all used to sit side. Yeah I think that might benefit you in the long run to have your look you know this time though
I think it's it's going to be able to come in here and you know I have already I practiced some parts and save and so I've got a feel of what it's going to be live for the next year or so and you know you're pretty good inside player as well as pretty good three point shooter understand is that right. That's a hard combination to find him a player these days. How did you perfect your day. Well in high school I was one of the tallest players on the name so I had a plan on the side to help out so. And also you got to play some outside and get your three point shooting to build this from there. Yeah there's a lot of good players have come out of Florida. Why do you think that is. Well I thing we both started young and Sparta and with a lot of girls we all played together even in elementary school. And so and
then I you know we played together and I just think that we've had very good coaching. Since you played together with those young ladies for so long is it going to be hard you think to fit into this thing. No I don't think so. It's been pretty easy coming here so far because they really get along so well and it's I think it's great. What attracted you to Tennessee Tech I had a really good academic program and that's really gets going I also heard that there was one position open for walking on the back. Now Pre-med is a very tough curriculum and it's an AC tech and one thing about the premed curriculum is that the chemistry program is so hard that if you get through that it's easy to get into medical school and that's what I've heard. So is it tough to balance academics and basketball. It really is you have to learn to manage your time and that's something that I learned to adjust to it took a little while but now I think I managed. What attracted you to premier My
father's a doctor and others in our side always been a session with the health bill. So just a natural thing to their thinking and why did you choose Tennessee Tech rather than the academic curriculum why did you want to play basketball. I heard that they had been very successful. And I'm sure that was a great program. Is it tough to be a walk on in a way it is because you're going to have already made seven they play the summer together. But then again these are the last girls night except that you'd like to try the same and will it. Would it bother you if in the course of the year you don't get to play in a lot of games. Now I guess we're going to be a part of such an exciting program but just said one. He wanted the players talked about as far as what happened last year in the previous years what have they told you about the history of this team. Well. Last year they really wanted to win no B.S. and I felt they should have but they did. But this year there's a really dedicated committed and we're all very confident.
You came to Tech from Princeton Indiana. What attracted you to it. I guess I'd have to say I was looking for a good basketball program to play and that was that wasn't a big division. I mean I guess big big school like you know Purdue and Indiana which is around where I live and they had a good education program so I kind of looked at that and then talking to Coach Well I decided to walk on and you know neither that way. Did you realize when you walked on the this team would be playing against the type of competition you're talking about the Louisiana Tech. Yeah yeah I knew and when I talked to him he he had said that they were working and I think that's I think it's great I mean I want to play against it. I mean I think that's a great experience to play because I like the coach from there on I think playing teams like that and seeing things like that this is good. What do you think about Coach world system here. Oh I get I think I've been able to I mean it's been a little bit of an adjustment just because I came from a smaller school and and you know so it's I think it's a good i like it. Indiana's been no. Throughout the years to produce great men's basketball players
have they produced a lot of women's rights. Well we have one plane for University of Tennessee and you know there's a lot to thank a couple of us applying for Iowa with pride all-American I graduated seniors with me. So yeah I had a had a few I mean it's not as noticed because we are known for men's basketball essayists as you know is this but there's been a few that come out really good. What do you think you can contribute to the team this year. I can contribute you know just being. Someone a good person you know practicing in practices and stuff and someone that can when when called upon can do it and what needs to be done when asked. Sure how do you like college basketball. It's different from high school but the competition level is higher. And we're playing a lot of a lot of different teams and you ever play in high school. Oh I get a lot of people get discouraged when they come to college because they find that they're not the star
player anymore. Sounds to me like you like a challenge. You don't have to be a star to basic says for you Mike you're a star you don't do it by yourself you do it with everybody. I can see why in some cases playing college ball might be more fun because the things that you want to do in high school couldn't do. You might be able to do now because of the level of talent around here. We travel a lot more made a lot of different people as in high school you buy the same things over and over. And in college you you play different teams all over the country and foreign teams. How do you fit in on this team. How do you feel like you are like a fading away oh it's the top of the game we play is the game. Do you consider yourself a better shooter passer rebounder. What do you feel is your current. Problem the. Physical strain your strength is your story. That's an interesting point. So it's natural strength or do you look. It's.
Probably a little bit about why it's preseason and second trying now. But. By the time everybody sees this you'll be back from Hawaii and I know you're looking forward to what. What are your expectations for the upcoming season. I fail last year. We finish second I'll be say one of our goals going into this year is to win the regular season and I think we have a really good chance of doing that. You've watched a lot on television. Quite a bit. Yes. What do you think of it is that what attracted you to this team is that one thing that attracted you the fact that you got to see him so much. Yeah I grew up right here in the Cannie growing up around a basketball about guys admired it. And. A lot of the people around the community support. And. So on the best that I've seen. Sometimes when you look into the sky you see things. Weather balloons gas clouds falling
stars. Some people believe they've seen us foes. A local group discusses these sightings. Larry can you tell us a little bit about the Mutual UFO Network. Well it's about 25 years called the abbreviation pro It is not fun. MUFON I mean can you see anything like our vision about sightings or special programs that come on usually so someone from the organization being interviewed. The Mutual UFO Network Incorporated is an international scientific organization composed of people seriously interested in studying and researching the phenomena known as unidentified flying objects by combining their mutual talents areas of expertise and investigative efforts. Moveon is a Texas nonprofit corporation who fund firmly believes that a concentrated scientific study by dedicated investigators and researchers will provide the ultimate answer to the UFO enigma. It was founded on May 30 first in 1969 in North America a state or provincial directors
oversees the investigative activities of the field investigators through state section directors and international coordination and seven Continental coordinators work with the foreign representatives and national directors in each country on the international scene. Some people don't understand how do you deal with people who. Feel that what you are seeing is what. Yes whatever. Well it's kind of hard to explain it off a swamp gas. When something makes a right hand turn. And the sky. Goes straight up and down in an area that and you know it's not a helicopter it can possibly be a helicopter. We have. Moved on has several specialists that are astronomy and. Physics professors. At major colleges that people speak to we speak to to make sure that what we're seeing and right we've got films of are pictures of
can't be explained away because some of the can be. Not everything that people think is the is unidentified is not identified. It can be identified but there's some that can't. And like for instance there seems to be sightings in the area of an object going through the sky which is about the size if you had your your hand up. At arm's length. It would be about the size of a baby aspirin a bright light that goes flashing across the sky from one horizon to the other. You know if it was a meteor it would spark. It would have a tail. It goes fast enough so that. The eye can hardly follow it. And objects like that. Can't be explained. We have nothing that can go that fast. Because of gravity we have nothing that can make a sharp right hand left hand turns or turn around go the opposite direction. These sightings go back into the 40s and even before during World War Two they were
cited and I actually go back centuries. Native Americans have a lot of tales about sightings. No one can really guess what it is. Well that's all we can do is guess. People have different opinions. It's my job as Section director not to have an opinion as to what it means. In an age where computers and video cameras and people with technical skills can create. I mean you can watch any science fiction program or movie and be taken in by our technical credibility. What do you do to make sure that what you're given or what you're told is accurate. Why myself and not professional enough to know that. What my job is to collect the information and forward it into people who are professionals and do know that what we do is we take as much of the report as we can. There's lots of forms to be filled out depending on what the sighting is.
Then we turn around and send it to our state director who in turn sends it to Texas. And they're the ones who have the professional expertise to make sure that this is not some sort of a hoax. I've taken reports from Sparta. Gains. Could fill Baxter. Granville. There is pretty active. And again if anybody thinks they may have seen something we'd really like to know about it. It's the only way we can get statistics for you. But central Tennessee seems to be a real hotbed from Knoxville to Nashville area. And. Quite coming for years. We have a resident up the road from me whose calves broke out kept breaking out of their fencing and at that time this was like seven years ago. The there were quite a
few sightings around the Martin's Creek area and his comment of that the store was where they'd come down and sit down in my pastor anytime they want. But I'm going to tell them you're welcome. But you guys stopped to care in my calves and. They were pretty casual about it because they did there are so many. Ghanem around the Oak Ridge area it's been real real heavy and in fact there are films taken and I was hoping to have one for you today but I couldn't get a hold of it in time. A lot of people don't want to be identified and any time you make out a. Report on something you've seen it's quite thorough it goes into a. Central Office into Texas. And you may remain anonymous if you like. You don't have to give your name and no one has access to those records either. Oh I suppose so. Well many times it's very near where the sighting was. In the case
that I'm going to tell you about. It was near Knoxville and it was near the sighting that was filmed by the constable that the adjoining property the people there had 17. Kells and 14 of them within a couple days span died with the mutilations or they had mutilations their ears missing genitals. Two of them had their brains removed. But the interesting thing was there was not a drop of blood. Not on the Gran not on the animals. Their hides were clean as if they'd just been scrubbed that they were not wet. Anybody who's gotten a towel ready for the fair knows what that fur looks like after it's been washed and dried and it was kind of lives. I dish only the the wounds were. Done almost with a laser. They were seared
closed. There was no bleeding at all. People I asked about devil worshippers. They do blood they have a lot of blood. And I. There was none on the ground I've seen the photos there's none on the ground. There were no tire tracks there were no footprints and it be really hard for people to go in and kill 14 calles. And not upset them. Not have them tear up the ground. There was none of. It just parts removed. Now. Other people have said to me well maybe the government's doing some sort of testing. But if the government wanted to do this they could go out in the middle of nowhere on their own property buy as many cows as they want and do anything they want. I don't think they come looking for private people's. Cattle. Or sheep or pigs or whatever. We have we have a really. Interesting one that happened in Sparta. A couple was driving down their driveway about a mile long. They had their two small children in the car and
they saw a. An object over the field they were able to describe it to us. The time of day was around sunset. Just prior to sunset maybe a half hour before sunset in April. Your last year. When she was describing it to me and telling me about it she said that she thought they watched it. They stopped their car. They watched it maybe 30 15 minutes 20 minutes. When I asked her what happen did it. Did it leave did it go up did it move it was triangular in shape. It was triangular in shape. And she said well no we just suddenly it wasn't there. I said Did you notice the disappear. She said I just really don't remember that. And I asked her what she did next and she said Well we went home and went to bed. In a year she had not thought about it but. I asked her
then. You went home I went to bed at 4:30 in the afternoon. And she said well you know it was dark. And she had. Not realized that the time lapse had to be more than that. Now there's obviously something she's not remembering. None of them are remembering. We also have people that are trained to regress and can help people remember if they need to. Some don't want to that's fine. You don't have to remember if you don't want to. What would you want you would first and then tell us you know whether they have a sighting or not. Whether they believe her. What do you want them to know about this what was good. Something I haven't said. OK. Well I think what I'd like them to know is that everyone's welcome that we're not judge mental. And that we're not going to whack. Us. I haven't seen one person that I would put in that category at all. Everyone seems very sincere very
interested. And what we'd like to do is just gather information. That's our job to gather it. Sometimes we can be it can be a lot of help just because there's somebody that you can talk to who will listen to you not think you're crazy or not tell you know you didn't see that. When you know you did. It that can be very helpful to people to get it out of their system and not to be laughed at. And again we do need some trained field investigators. I obviously cannot be everywhere at once. And since we had at the last meeting we had four counties. Represented. We had people who had come in from White County Jackson Putnam and over 10 counties at the meetings. So I can't be everywhere at once. And so I need some help out there. So I'd like to get some volunteers. They will be trained by the way.
The local chapter of moves on me from Susie is each month at 7:00 p.m. That's a cool show you go on Jefferson. And the fighting that has been hiding what's going on. There are some people who come with nothing but argue well until. The next meeting will be Tuesday December 6. Who volunteer or learn more about MoveOn call Area Code 6 1 5 3 7 2 7 0 7 0 0 or 1 800 3 2 7 5 4 4 4. The National Danish gymnastics team is currently on an international tour. There are only Tennessee performance will be in Cookeville on December 13th. It is an opportunity brought about by friendship. On a trip to Denmark touring with a local clogging teen billion Bill Masters met Hans rose garden Mark who is currently living in Berea Kentucky on a cultural exchange program.
Bill had the chance to see the team in action this fall. They came in October and we went up saw their shell and it was really fabulous. Better So I think then then the. Olympics are just about any gym this group you've ever seen. It's really really a good show. So hands calm maybe. A week or two ago and I ask do I think that we could bring the team to Cookeville. And I said well I really don't know but as our good friend a man Bob Harkness and he's letting us use the gym at the junior high school in December the 13th the group will get here on the 12th. And my church the Stephen Street Baptist Church your brother Jimmy arms and the keen Ager's the group that in the churches is helping me provide homes.
Places farm to stay and we'll feed them. And then the show is at 7 o'clock on Tuesday December the 13th that the junior high school. And. You probably have to ask me anything else but take it sir are $5 at the door three dollars in advance and I'll have to set up by. Maybe the banks can hit me or something you're selling tickets. I haven't got to touch them we hope to go to all the schools in the area to put a promo show on Tuesday morning around 10:00 o'clock so we can then the kids get some idea of just how good these people are. Here is tell us about this Danish gymnastics team. Lots of that's part of my live in part of my life 25 years. They represent the daintiest in Essex and Sports Association which says one of the associations in Denmark that while Denmark has got five fund two million member people living there. And we've got 1.6 million members. Out of which Steve Nash six is the biggest one. That's four hundred
and sixty thousand. And for many years since 1926 until 1990 89 It's been a tradition that they need a national domestic scuba touring the world always including the United States. That the distance ended in 1989. We formed our new association which was based on two old. Associations that dated back to 18 and that. And for the form we founded it and we did agreed that we should start it up again because. We feel that the domestics group that's representing Denmark and the cultural exchange. So we had to study it last year where we had a young group going to East Singapore and Thailand Philippines to see well it worked out it worked out fine. And so we had applications to be on a world too far in 94 95 we had 200 applying for that. And out of
those we have picked those 30 15 girls and fifteen boys who will be coming to Google. And we sound the world to an hour. Well one of the reasons are the basics thing for them to be at this team is that they work on the local bases in the local club. Associations we call it that they themselves pay 3500 to be on this tour. And they say for one year to where they've taken off from the Dobbs acquitted of being on sabbatical. And then the other commitment is that they will have to. Wow to hard work it is the hard work all of it. So if I mean if we did something special. How special is this bill to have this team make its only appearance in Cookeville. Becky I think it's really great because this thing I've got my hand they're going to be in Spain and they've been in Minnesota North Dakota Illinois Wisconsin Kentucky they're in close to Rick and Guatemala and going on to Lousiana Texas
Mexico and Cuba. California Fiji in the Philippines Singapore and Thailand. Denmark and finally back to Spain. To get them here in Cookeville Tennessee is just a great wonderful thing and I can't stress. Well I'll give you for instance I was watching television the other night down at SeaWorld in Florida and they had a group put on a show and they are there's no comparison in this group here so much better than Lee and I mean it will take your breath away. I just had a really good great these young people are and have a beer and coke will and we wanted to these eat and see the places that we've gotten to go in and we want people certainly to come out and see them because they're here is friends to visit Americans and see their American culture and to show us what they can do and they can do it. What kind of a show did I put on hands. Ron is really a mix show of two hours where they work to get all of them. It's a mix. And many Americans as I say what kind of gymnastics is this.
Do they compete in the Olympics. I say no they don't they could but this is team gymnastics. And when we talk about the masses that they prefer in Kentucky and how to call it dance that's movements to dance but they also do tumbling and jumping clown acts. They have a big clown act thing they're doing folk dance. Real big thing also folk dance wearing the national get costumes copies of that. And they say specifically what I say or what what I think the big difference is between the Olympic sayings and this what they're doing is that they're together. As a group they are the best ones I've ever seen and they are having fun. I think that's basically Denmark and what we do in Denmark is we like to have everybody participate in community activities. So no one's too good no one is too bad. Everybody can be that. So in Denmark it's a tradition
to be active in sports. 75 percent of our population activity involved in sports. And when you do sports you don't have the time to hang out to dogs and. Is and ever sing. So it's really a community thing in Denmark and that's one of the reasons why we're in Berea Kentucky. If we can put out a little of our ideas of the ways to do it and I know people like it because they're really lively that that's unique it is that's that's a great message isn't bail. I thank you. Likely that they will put on a show at the jr high school gymnasium at from seven to eight thirty. On Tuesday December the 13th. If you want to advance tickets calm me and I'll mail you one to you. Be happy to do that otherwise I'll try to set up a place for the banks. It will be on your program here in radio and newspapers. And we're just looking for a good
turnout. I'm surprised of having them here because I've seen a lot of the nastiest groups in the in the years you know this is a group that's come together. They started the first of August that was the first time they met. And what they put on a show now that's was really really something they they all of them a bright young people from 19 to 29 and you can really feel the mood about you. They've got the eye contacts with the yard and state and they make you feel good and they make it only make you feel that you could do the same thing and you can if you want to ever go to and then there are no specials then amateurs they just had a good time in doing this and everybody good that is they did that so I wouldn't feel that after a show like that even I've seen it many times now. I still find new things that I still find also in causing things that that's is how we can do all of us if we want
to to change some of this world. The National Danish gymnastics anymore make their own way. Foreman thank you Bill. On Tuesday December 13 at 7:00 p.m. and again. Pickets are three dollars in advance and $5 at the door. For more information or ticket reservations call or gamemaster at 6 1 5 5 2 6 5 4 9 1 the Tennessee Tech golden eagles are hoping that a talented group of newcomers will add speed and athleticism to head basketball coach Frank Carroll's customary running game. Half of the team had never played in a tech uniform before this season. We met the new
team members and talked with the veterans during practice a few days before the season started we got a lot of bad blood. Thank you. We've head out on all four of the most talented team is not a not one with pretty talented. It looks looks really good right now. Does that depth sometimes it create a problem it seems like there are so many people and so many egos you have to satisfy as far as getting into the game is a tough Thank you great problem Toto I don't know if it does the pain it makes in practice it makes everybody better because everybody that you get from God it's is a clear or a little bit better than the self so that it probably does from the coaching staff for the. New year senior this year but what are you expecting for yourself just to come out and give it a hundred camp or stand out of the stand have a good have a good time I mean last year was already out try to try to keep everybody back laughin and stuff but we were getting were good bait not in not out but this route is going to finish out my career and have them have fun with this a bit. What are your plans after you
graduate. I got another hopefully after I graduate now to master and pursue a coaching career and if all of the fam play softball with my life I think that you have lost a lot of weight this in the off season. Can you tell us about. Well. I was. I've been around all summer working out and it was a pretty good shape and then we start conditioning and I just started feeling real bad and I was losing weight for a while August off though out of shape but no really I knew a lot and I. Know Carol talked about a couple pounds and we decided we're going to go to get a blood test. Copies of writing my family thought for you I might have something like that when I come up. I'm far away and it was elevated. And I mean I've got to test it through four times and each time a little bit worse and I thought it was I don't know what they're going to do but I'm on medication.
And it's a it's a long ordeal and I really I've got two years it's going to be at least a year before I feel better for a. Layover and that's if they if the medication wars a war that removing the House is going to think you're playing I know you'll be able to play slow at it at a stretch if you know what. Well that you know I talked to said he said there's nothing about it it's a physically damaging. It's just I'm not sure I have much stamina. You know and that's basketball. So I mean it affects me in that way but it's not it's not that I can't say you can't play not be polite. But it's just it's hard for me. But yeah talk about this year's team you expect great things from them on the lake today. Well. Why don't we. We've got a whole new pain and we've got a bunch of new players. And we've got a few veterans back in there
and you know you know I guess you got to be optimistic but we've got a long way to go and I think there's a little bit on the team of that we're already there and we're more not near there. I mean our hats and that's just I guess maybe the senior I know we're not there and I'm playing you know it's we got about going to see Vanderbilt Ralph Bahau play that's you know I don't want to be negative about playing one of my puts in our points and then by the time the OBC comes maybe we'll reel off that we you know got a way to go and put together. But on the other hand I do think we could have it take a week but obesity really well if we get our bye mindset right. When you talk with the best about players in particular you know you're in shootaround or when you're not practicing or when you're not playing. Everybody on the team has great personnel the nice guy. But out there on the floor it's just completely different. What is it that you do to to turn turn that basketball face on to make
yourself so intense that whole day pretty much you dislike about the game and get down and dance about it. Knowing what you do and really when you step out before you don't have any friends or does out there do what you gotta do. And then then when does that go why is it hard to get out of that mode but you know it's a lot easier if you win and get out of the middle of the slow but harder but you know things now better. And what do you think about the schedule this year pretty tough road ahead. Well it's not being near stuff last year wrist on that I think we take these games from time I can. Make us better. I think it helps out a lot. Well I spoke with you about it if you're in a conference and I got a record over 500 with the new guys come in handy. We should be about the team now. Butyl Renzo are the only senators people who are listed at center on the team but actually a lot of different guys move in and out of that position. You know throughout the game.
Yes we have man sent him off over to the time of depositions so you know we got power for the senators used the right the same you know play the same role but everybody's call when both the gasohol boys but they are consistent 7 0 0 0 1. What are you looking for personally for yourself to do this year. Just to play better with more profit. Don't let myself get down like idea last year I did. Carlos you are the newcomer of the year in the LBC. Last year do you feel a lot of pressure to perform this year. Oh really feeling the pressure got to go out and play out and worry about what the media said and how to train me as a player. Do you expect a lot from yourself I mean I know what I'm capable of doing or what I'm not and I just bought five living that I can make things better. Now what will we see from you this year that we didn't see last year maybe.
Probably I'm a lot more passing. I've been over some I work I'm a paddling you know part of my game and I need to prove my jump shot and is going to try to be a better player than I was less something I would say we have more talent they had the past I would I think we do too. So that's a curious long way we got depth on the bench everything so we should miss a beat with the top of the player after someone know what type of player are you to play small forward to guard. I mean I've I've been known to Willow sometimes post and I can shoot that range pretty much known for shock and shoot I would alow rebound a little bit of everything. I've also been told you can jump out of the jail. I mean whether they win the case you've got to rise to it. What's your favorite part of playing here to the Saitek so far. I'm say one day that like. This out the coast gives you the freedom to
shoot me that you create things. I mean if you have a shot you could take it with you cream shop someone else that's also good to sell like I braced up for you so any predictions for this year. Well they got this rank I think and I would not have the grill I've been every bit top five I think by people underestimate us. But when the time on this show is a newcomer to this team have you found it hard to say to you. Now it hasn't been there are to finance all the gals I get along. Ali gas pretty well but the system's a lot there and I came in when I had less than oh what have you had to change about your game was going to trust. Well this is a more I get to be a late shift where we have freedom that a lot more pain than we had in my view that's been the most difficult thing as well as the quickness of the game battle. What do you think about the
state that a lot of good at a lot of good athletes. And everybody who works hard everybody worked really hard. I think we have a very very decent here but you were it sure did last year was that upset. There was room to sit out a year because I mean I've never had to sit out but. You know I'm glad I'm kind of glad I did because now I have an extra gear I had to make here to practice to get a little stronger. It was pretty good for members glad to see this here now and I felt like we're sitting out I guess. I saw you practiced you know all year long at all I think you have to sit out of I guess was the game set. But yeah I was I had to practice law here at the Olive Garden. Rob with great players. They help me a lot of things. What do you feel you bring to this table obviously everybody expects you to have a great shooting touch guy. I kind of think that you know bring a lot of. Try to make people have a little bit
open shots to try to penetrate you people open at the same time. People are spinning you set out last year of the Red Shirts. How do you feel about that. Looking back on it now I caught a lot of my decision because I had a chance to get stronger and get quicker. Is it tough being a point guard on this to get content but rather to the two guard the three guard who so well we've got so many good guards that it really takes and cry from the point guard. I guess the competition in practices is hard every day. Yes there is about one point guard that are all close together and we all work hard every day. What do you look back on the last last year and and tell us your thoughts about last year season. Apo we could have been a better team than we were at college he looked very well. We just had to get you know we weren't supposed to win some games anyway. And what about this year what do you expect from the sky think we're going really surprising things I think we got a lot of town on this theme song
with work. Yeah a lot of people have great expectations for you this year too after as you said Block eighty five shots I believe last year and nobody else on the team even had double figures and blocks. Do you feel the kind of pressure to perform better this year. Yeah did you notice that I named the book and. But as we started playing you know I got to get over you know I got to live with my ex my own expectations rather than other people you know. But that's how I feel now is to buy coffee and to to somebody else about it. And there was a lot of talk about in the offseason how you have developed your office of game quite a bit more. Do you feel comfortable with your game so much more so than I did last year. What if you want to be change will be added to your repertoire. Yes more shots and no competition. What do you expect from this year's Tour. Well you know we all have seen the boy but really realistically speaking you know 500 to try to get to the heart of it.
How do you feel about playing for Tennessee Ted I think I'm going to enjoy I plan to take this even I mean we have a young team and I have a board where is it tough as a freshman to come in and realize that you're one of six seven new guys that have never set foot on campus before I mean being in one of only seven made to make the transition easier. You know he's not as practiced go so far is going away I think like everybody is going to bail out their rose and started to get team cam. Is a tough blow. It is not it. Time is about of Gandhi. I mean you know it is a lot to run in but not of my power. What about the style of puppets of different assist people you played it is not out there I mean we played up tempo style and I suppose oh I mean I like it a lot. Is that one thing that attracted you to the compass out like you're out there playing point guard. Were you expected to play for did you expect to play point guard when you came here but
what worked what changed what made you into one guy. Oh Dave they want to play points. I plan born. Do you like that you're like oh what do you bring to this day what kind of game you plug. I passed by a lot of truth I'm like what's up. You're the buffalo and I guess being as tall as you are it's easier to see over the fences here and get a good look inside. It's really hard practices here to see tat go away they talk about is that we have a game on Friday and we played Monday Monday they'll be off right through the Gobi are crying. Every day because it was an every day part right. Yeah. What attracted you to Tennessee Tech. What made you decide to go there. You know all that you know what you like about big the POPC.
It is almost amazing that's for sure. What do you think about this year's team what's going to happen. What you get your schedule under way you start much better life because of the mission. What about the team how good is this. That's both pretty good you know it was a bit in this you know you have to look over there and see who was up yeah you know I mean my friends you know think oh take the same set what it's like in the family you know when you're when you're part of this you become part of the family. What do you think that is because you guys even swept work together so much to much. Why would you tell you know now that all of our practice is grueling years they look they look extremely hard it's not hard I mean you know what are you going to what do you describe your style of play. Well cause leave me behind who has it and you know I
guess a lot of players don't have that attitude. Did you get that attitude. My school coach. When he said you had to do it get it done. And what attracted you to Tennessee Tech. They're like the second person to prove me they stay with you for a while you know. Did you get to come up and visit. Yeah which I think about you know as well as what you think about college basketball so far. It's a whole new level but I'm excited about it. Different in high school and a lot faster pace I'm not a full or more physical but I think I'm just pretty well tamed and I like I like it. I looked at your stats from high school me pretty much dominated where you played how hard is it to adjust to this level. It's harder for me because most of the guys that I played against were around 6 4 6 5 you know I get here and everyone's My father figure in it. It's a lot harder but that's one of the things that I
think I need that I've always been good defensively on the post the score on the post that. I'm having a lot more moves and stuff because I know court playing against the rhythm trying to get over him but I've had to change your way of thinking as far as thinking like a big man do you think now like a forward or well I'll flip over to high school we had a guy on my side I could shoot outside so I played a lot of court high school but it's pretty much here I'm on the post now and I understand that and I'll do whatever it takes to help me think. What kind of team do we have this year. We've got I think seven new players so we can have a really good team but it just depends on how well we get it together. So you can go on. And that's the upper Cumberland camera join us again next week as well take a look at President 50s Christmas trees designed by Barbour Griffith and we'll have a look at the Dickens Christmas feast which takes place at the scarecrow country inn until next week. Have a good evening.
