[Host]: On behalf of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting I'm very pleased to convey our best wishes to the KOAC and KOAP family of public broadcasting stations and to their viewers and listeners. No public radio station in the United States has a more distinguished record than KOAC in Corvallis. For five decades it has been a voice of quality in service to the listeners it serves and I am certain that this proud record will be extended. Channel 7 in Corvallis has now been on the air 15 years, making it one of the country's pioneer public television stations and our best wishes go to the dedicated public broadcasters who operate this excellent station. For radio station KOAP FM in Portland the 10th anniversary of its founding is being most appropriately marked by the newly acquired capability to broadcast in stereophonic sound, a move certain to delight its many listeners. Finally Channel 10 in Portland celebrates the beginning of its second decade of service and the Corporation
for Public Broadcasting extends its sincere congratulations for the outstanding television service it brings to the viewers in Portland. With the beginning of a membership drive by the elements of the Oregon educational and public broadcasting service it is appropriate to note that the degree of support for public broadcasting stations from listeners and viewers is critical to the success of public broadcasting. The unique quality of public broadcasting is found in the specialized programming of high quality and of many and diverse thrusts. I'm certain that the audiences of the public radio and television stations of the Oregon Educational and Public Broadcasting Service will continue to play their parts in our common efforts to pursue public broadcasting of excellence. [Don Quayle]: This is Don Quayle president of National Public Radio. It gives me great pleasure
to participate in the anniversary of 50 years of public broadcasting by the Oregon educational and public broadcasting service through KOAC in Corvallis and 10 years of FM radio service in Portland through KOAP FM. And in the tradition of equal time, it is with equal pleasure that I congratulate KOAC TV on its 15th and KOAP TV on its tenth year of television station operation. With 50 years of experience behind you, you certainly qualify among the pioneers as well as the current leaders of broadcasting in the United States. The last 50 years has seen great growth and change in the concepts and services of public broadcasting and dedication on the part of individual station Representatives has been the most important motivational force contributing to these changes. National Public Radio has been in existence for only two years and the direction to
me and the NPR staff comes from a board of directors whose majority are member station managers. The leadership of your manager Robert Hines who serves as a member of this Board of Directors has been invaluable to us. Bob Hines commitment to serving the needs of public broadcasting audiences at the national level with the best that we can offer assures me that his audience in Oregon is receiving the best programming that he and his staff can provide. As you enter your second half century I'm completely confident that the excellence of the station's offerings will increase and diversify, that your audiences will grow and that public's support for your efforts will be ever more enthusiastic. Best of luck for the future. [Chalmers Marquis]: I'm Chalmers Marquis of the National Association of educational broadcasters in
Washington D.C. I want to convey to the people of Oregon our congratulations for having the good sense to support KOAP and KOAC radio and TV for so many years in the state of Oregon. For over 50 years they've been bringing you services in radio and TV. We know about them well here in Washington D.C. We've heard many of your programs. We've seen many of the programs on television. We know their worth and we commend all of you in Oregon for having supported these programs and the good people of KOAP and KOAC for all these many years from all of us here to all of you there, congratulations.
