[helicopter noise] [helicopter noise] Whoa! [Singing] The year was 1980 / May 18th you recall / When day
turned into night time / In the town of Yakima / St. Helens finally blew her stacks and the ashes 10 miles high / One man would not evacuate / He said he'd rather die / Let's drink a toast to Harry Truman / He sure as hell had guts / They say that you are 84 / I say that you are nuts / But a special kinda crazy / That makes me hope and pray / You're safe with food and whiskey / And hidin' in your cave / The mud flows and the ashes / Have buried your old home / And many fear you perished / In the landslides all alone / But someone said she saw you / Side saddle on a tree / Cruisin' down the Toutle River / And toward your victory / Lets drink a toast to Harry Truman / He sure as hell had guts / They say that you were 84 / I say that you were nuts [laughing] / But a special kinda
crazy / That makes me hope and pray / You're safe with food and whiskey / And hidin' in your cave / [Harry R. Truman] ...take me down that road, that is backwards when I go that road, or I'm not leavin'. And I'm not gonna take my name off that [beep] sign that's sandblasted, I've changed it five times in my life and it's gonna sit their [sic] it rots down. And my God I'd like to see the man that take that sign off that head post. [singing] Now I'll Leave you Harry / In that very special land / Where Spirit Lake is still shimmering / And all of Helens stands / Now if there is a heaven / I know you'll be there too / They wouldn't dare to shut the gates / On an ornery cuss like you / Let's drink a toast to Harry Truman / He sure as hell had guts / They say that you were 84 / I say that you were nuts / But a special kinda crazy / That makes me hope and pray / You're safe with food and whiskey / And hidin' in your cave

[Reporter] Officials have finally been able to determine how many people are known dead in the Mt. St. Helens disaster, and how many are still missing. Recovery of the bodies may begin tomorrow. Steve Williams reports from Toledo. [Steve] The death toll is now officially set at 14. That's the number of bodies that have been sighted by helicopter pilots. The list of missing is now 76. Some of those could still be alive. Civilian and military authorities have decided the time has come to remove the bodies whose locations have been confirmed. [to official] When will you be able to go in to get them? [Official] We're hoping that we can accomplish that task tomorrow. [Steve] Why was it decided at this time to go in and get them? Why not leave them there for a while and then search for
people who have survived? [Official] The search for people who have survived continues. We have not let up on that. That continues. It's just that we felt that we could do both. [Steve] No search or rescue flights took off today because of rain and a low cloud ceiling. But that did allow time for officials to consolidate their search coordination center at a new site here at Toledo airport, bringing in units from Kelso and other locations. [Official] It's a matter of convenience, convenience as far as the air traffic goes. Kelso is . . .
