- Newsreel footage and reporting of the battle of Dien Bien Phu. The French are surprised by the attack, and their artillery is ineffective. French planes drop napalm, ?liquid fire? as the narrator calls it. Shots of Viet Minh anti-aircraft guns firing. DBP airstrip is destroyed and helicopters are used to carry out the wounded and dead French soldiers. Narrator announces that the French commander has committed suicide. Shots of the Viet Minh digging and moving through trenches. In the style of a movie house newsreel, there is dramatic music as the French are defeated and taken prisoner.
