Running the river through the Grand Canyon is not only on White Water adventure it's also a journey back through time. The river takes us on a kind of downward escalator cutting diagonally into the earth's crust. We enter a dramatic passageway into the deepest part of the canyon. Here we encounter the rocks. One point seven. This is just. As it's now. This is all that remains of a once rose as high. Over the course of a hundred million. The grinding power of erosion these mountains were worn down. By the Earth's heat.
These rocks once were sandstone and shale which have been. Great pressure the base are probably a very high mountain range. And they're very high as a result. Because of the extreme hardness of these rocks. The river flowing through them is tightly constrained with rough rock.
