You have to go talk somewhere on, right? We're supposed to start talking a little bit. That's the color guide, right, take out the color guide, color guide. Thank you, thank you. They usually have a siren going and maybe I'll come later.
Welcome to the 1989 Fourth of July parade in beautiful downtown Bethel. This is what kicks the whole event off. I'm Rhonda McBride and co-hosting this event with me is Peter Twitchel. He'll be speaking, you think. What do you think about all of this Peter? The weather so far.
It's a little bit nippy out here today. Cloudy and lots of missed, maybe he'll burn off by midday. Oh, well, wish we could have flip-flop yesterday for today. The weather yesterday was just gorgeous. Well, I'd like to start off by saying happy Fourth of July to my family. The kids and wife hopes her end is feeling better today. Happy Fourth of July to you Rhonda. Yeah, thank you, Peter. Boy, happy Fourth of July to everyone out there. I hope it's a safe and happy one. Here we have the color guard approaching. Members of the National Guard in Bethel tradition. Lines club members, VFW members. I can see an old Bethelite out there, Sompi. Well, this is great. And auxiliary members. What a nice crowd of people gathering here to see all of it. Oh boy, look at those balloons. Nice festive kind of float there. That's the National Guard with the balloons. I can't tell who this is.
This is still the National Guard. Second Battalion Scouts, 297 Infantry. Alaska's finest. Oh boy, look at this next truck that we have coming up here. I'll cover it with balloons. I wonder who this one's from. I can't quite tell. Very patriotic. White and blue balloons. Oh boy. Daisy May Lamont and Or Daisy May Isaac. Hi Daisy. They're throwing candy from that. We've got quite a good crowd out here for such a nippy day. So I'm glad that the weather hasn't put a damper on thing. Well, you've got a puppy. Oh, I've got a puppy here from the veterans of Foreign War. All right. One of the things that they were tossing off from that, from the truck there.
There's the Lines Club Truck. Some lucky souls going to get it today. Oh boy. What were they throwing out? Oh my goodness. All kinds of goodies here. I should grab some. Take some home on my kitchen. Oh my goodness. A plastic dinosaur here is thrown out by the VFW. So not only do you have quite an extravaganza to view here, but you get prizes with a house out there. Yeah, I don't want to get parietal rent money money money money money. My national guard at the Leitnik VFW Lines Club and it was done so good. The clean new parietal. So the lifted neat log I put. Oh my god. Looks like we have. Members of the kids softball team. Yeah.
Little League. Boy, look at those kids all there. Quite a crowd there. Oh boy. We got some more ones coming up here. We got a whole army of kids. One of them in a decorated bicycle. I guess that's what's so neat about these hometown things. It's a whole community taking part big and small. You just kind of jump in and get in the act. It's warming to see everybody getting involved in the parade today. Certainly in contrast, there's sort of nippy weather out here. People seem a little happy. We're all up. Seems like everybody's enjoying it. So way, way in the back I see the fire truck finally. Still a little league. Lots of little leaguers today. Isn't it amazing how this crowd just kind of sprung up, Peter?
I mean, it seems like a few minutes ago, just parking lot by the AC mall with empty and then all of a sudden. Yeah. Well, ah. Here they are. Oh boy. Looks like they're having fun here with some silly spray stuff or whatever they call it. We're being mobbed by the little league. That's an interesting float coming down the road there. Yeah, that I'd have to say is one of the more creative ones on the side that says, my favorite motto, be happy, don't worry. Which is kind of a nice thing for a fourth of July. Look at that. A van turned into a monkey. Oh, no. This one's pretty good here. Now, which one is this one from? Oh, 4-H Club. Oh, what about the beetle? Oh, that is something.
I hear that's a Hoffman family production there, the little ATV disguise as a beetle. We've got the P-A-T-C van there. Yeah. Low full of people there. I'll ask a village to our zinc. That's a new business. Yeah. They're exciting thing, developing here in the Delta. Well, here we have a truck and a boat all decked out in fourth of July. Findery. See you all, Haven. Let's watch Lee and Donna Crich. Oh, boy. Well, here's one of the prizes in the parade.
Oh, boy. Here comes the K-Y-U-K van. Oh, the horrible glide perched on the top. Oh, and he's got a couple of his monsters with him. Look at that, Pete. That looks like a gorilla, and I can't see the other one. There's our Brent Delopause. We're all there monsters. God, I almost got hit there with him. I almost got decked there. Oh, and this is quite a flown here. P-W-C. Looks like they did a lot of work with that one. Why don't you set that microphone down in wonder with me out into the crowd and we'll go talk to some people. We got a lot of basketball people out here. Running away from me is I come up to him with a microphone.
See if we can find some people here to chat with and see how they like it today. I'm there. What's your name? And he was. What do you think about this today? All right. What do you like that so far? I'm going to fan. That's where the toys if they're giving away. And you swo, having a good time out here. Oh, my goodness. I just got attacked them by the Bethel Fire Department with a lollipop. Hi there. What's your name? I'm in. What do you think about this guy? Very nice. Very nice. What do you like so far? All the noise. Quite a bit of excitement here on the 4th of July.
Need to leave it down. Need to leave it by. Great to land. I guess this officially kicks off 4th of July festivities and then we go up to the park for the open ceremonies. I guess there's all kinds of activities planned. Everything from elders' races, which I'm really looking forward to seeing. And mud wrestling right here. Now, is this something? This is my first 4th of July experience, Peter. You got to help me out here. Are these the kind of festivities that are normally planned? The mud wrestling is new last year, so I see it's back again, so it must be popular. That's by popular demand.
Mud wrestling and battle. Well, it looks like the crowd's starting to move down to Pinky's Park. We see a mass migration of people. I'd like to see if we could find some people in the crowd to chat with here. Everybody though seems to be running away from us from when they see the microphone. I guess they have other things on their mind today. Yeah, they want to go back to the fairgrounds and get in on the activities up there. The good food and everything that's up there. What kind of food do they have up there, Peter? Barbecues. I guess you name it. All kinds of foods. Oriental foods. Your famous two steaks. Our dogs. They're roping us back in here, Peter. I guess this parade is wrapping up, so I'll sign off for now. I'm in front of a prize with KYUK, hoping that you have a safe and happy holiday. I'm glad to experience all of this. I hope that everyone out there has a great time today, Peter.
Who wants to stand here? Hi, Peter. Is it Okay, you want to wish your wife a happy birthday? Yeah, and all of my love and wife.
So okay. A nice thought. Thanks. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Thank you. Thank you. This is the way we touch our kids, touch our kids, touch our kids, this is the way we touch our
kids. What are you doing? What do people mean when they say boxing baby board? It's an expression, it's not a suggestion. Here, this is how you do it. You put the diaper on like this. Thank you.
Thank you.
