We're going to start with the different from others. Does anyone need to bring the food? But who is easily brought in when are these public kids? OK. That's a good question. Army Q is a, basically is a kickoff for our new academic year. So we sponsor it and we get a lot of assistance from various people who donate fish. And the food is essentially all donated to us. Essentially most of it is donated to us from people in the community, from organizations and the stores. The gal who's actually in charge of it is traveling today. And so I don't know specifically, I know Swanson's in AC. And I don't know whether it was JB Crow or, you know, Bullet Cheer, whom we got the fish from. But I know it's all essentially donated to us. L-I-N.
Uh-huh. Just hold it. Just write it out. It's a kind of a tricky name written. L-I-N. And then the last name is Lahee. And it's pronounced as if it were just like Lahee. Okay. You ready? You got one. You got one. You see. Set. All right. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. First question will be, uh, what's going to happen outside of you. Then we'll have, be having our, what we call our fourth now annual salmon barbecue. And it's the opportunity for the people in Bethel and any surrounding communities that might be, you know, people who might be in town to join us and just sort of a celebration. We will, uh, we have an excellent menu of, of local salmon and corn on the cob and coleslaw
and et cetera. And, uh, it's, it begins at five thirty on Saturday. And everyone is invited to it. It's just a, a nice celebration to begin our new learning year. How long or how many years have this you see in doing? Well, this is the fourth year for us. And as, as often the case out here, things become traditions rather quickly. And so it's sort of, uh, it is a tradition, I guess, for us. Is there any particular or selected groups only in the United? No. Everyone from the entire region actually, of course, we, our learning community, the, the group we serve as all of the Yukon, Kuscum Delta, although we recognize that this is really, uh, more typically Bethel people that participate in this. And it's, it's sort of, uh, the kickoff for our Bethel part time instructional season. Why is this, uh, case you see barbecue held yearly?
Well, it's, uh, just an opportunity, I guess for us in one sense to say thank you to the community for their support of the college and to, to inform them about, uh, the coming events of the year. Where did you get this idea? Well, I'm not sure, of course, this is just my second year here with the college. And so it was started before I was connected with the college. Um, is this year's barbecue going to be different from the other years? It will be somewhat different, Vernon, and in, in this regard, people will actually enter the barbecue through the main interest of the college. And we'll then have the opportunity as they go through the halls of the college to see a few changes that are being made, for example, in our new computer room. Um, and also to be, uh, have some input into our course schedules for this year. We want to, uh, we'll be asking people to offer suggestions and review the, the tentative schedule for this fall and to, you know, ask us what they would like to see.
In effect, their community college, uh, do this year. Does anyone need to bring their own food? No, the food is all provided. It's much of it is donated from, uh, people in the community from the stores and fish companies. And, uh, it's a, so actually a well-supported event is getting to be quite a community event in a sense. And it is, uh, you know, everything's provided. So all people need to do is just come with a smile. Who's are usually, uh, well, we'll be serving a barbecue salmon and it's, uh, uh, fixed in a really nice barbecue sauce that people are really, really seem to enjoy, uh, in coleslaw and corn on the cob and I think some rolls and I'm sure some, you know, milk or juice and coffee, et cetera. How long would you, uh, barbecue? Well, probably it'll begin around 5.30 and I suspect it will last till 7.30 or, you know, later potentially.
Um, we anticipate, well, basically the numbers attending the barbecue have been going up about a hundred people per year and, uh, we anticipate up to 600 people this year. So take a little while to serve 600 people. Yeah. Do you have anything more? Well, I just, uh, want to thank those people who have contributed there. Their support to the barbecue and I know the college staff is excited about putting it on. They'll be here all day Saturday preparing for the barbecue and so we, uh, we have called and quite a few employers to remind their, their employees about the barbecue and so we're just looking for a really fun, Bethel event. Thanks. Okay. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I, I think it really will be, you know, 600 people, a lot of people and, uh, a lot of salmon. We've got to cut a lot of salmon. It will, although we can, you know, house a lot of people that it's done in the shop and but we'll have people come in the front door and come down the hallway and learn a little more about the college and, and then, uh, enter and get their food and so forth. So it'll, it'll work out all right. It was, uh, barbecue last year. It was good. Although I felt that we didn't make, uh, we didn't get as much advantage. So to speak out of it. It was just a nice barbecue. But, um, we didn't have, you know, we weren't passing out schedules and, and getting a, this year's designed to be kind of a needs assessment too, where we're, we're offering the people a chance to say, hey, you know, I'd like a course in, in, uh, pneumatic or something. It doesn't matter what. And if we've got enough people who were looking for a particular thing, then we have three weeks before our, some of our classes begin to put something together for that. So it's a, it's a real opportunity for the community to, you know, provide some input
into what is really their community college.
