well we're here in church slow everybody's looking good everybody's staying everybody's staying they're coffee why gee this is a trip the richer charter when I took in March nineteen eighty eight it was after about three hours of running you were on the other side of Kwifluk heading toward three steps it was time for a break you want to go further
ten to two ten to two that's my leader diesel come on Richard is snacking his dogs with ground turf they gave mine white fish and
and this is head the temperature is about ten degrees you spray out to free stuff. It's beautiful day for mushrooms. I've got a storm that's on the horizon.
Come on, bear. Come on, bear. Get over, buddy. That's a boy. Good boy. I'm using eleven dogs. Come on, let's go. Time for another break.
This is distance mushing. The speed the dogs go when they travel with a load. Let's go. First night at camp, lots of wood. We cut dead spruce.
First we melt snow for the dogs, about two gallons per team. Then we mix dog food in fed the dogs. Then we cook steaks. It's around minus five below zero. Let's go. The next morning, the storm had hit. We weren't going anywhere today, the trail was completely blown over.
What's going to do is, stop. Half Bar right here. B The dogs just woke up from 18 hours of sleep under a blanket of snow. Coffee. How are you? Margie. How are you? First we melt some more snow for the dogs.
Now they wake up. The weather is not improving. I have two to three days of dog food left. Salmon, river, and dry food. Yeah.
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. Those are my dogs going crazy.
That's me feeding mine. That was Margie that almost knocked over the bucket. That's coffee in panda. This is all our focus.
The storm began to roar us a little. We didn't know how long it would last and how the return trail would be. So, we're having ground turkey for dinner, huh? Like 70 am or so, the weather had started to break.
We went into the trees and had a good fire and dinner, and we melted more snow for the dogs. Ground turkey for the dogs. This morning it was beautiful, minus 9 below, no wind, real nice, lots of new snow. Okay, there's the trail.
You should go ahead and go check it. Yeah, see, take a taste, see what's really done. It's strong, it's all good.
Three steps. Won't make the last five miles this trip. We have to start back to Bethel, 50 miles. Best sent her brother and friends to make sure we had a good trail.
The trail hadn't been as bad as we expected leaving camp. We met them, took a break and then hit it home. That was mine here. .
