Oh, Andy, please wear. Well, I'm right here, my dear, there's no need to shout. Oh, no need to shout. Hey, what's the matter? Oh, the matter. Please sound upset. Upset. Hey, what's wrong? What's wrong? Well, that's what I'm asking you. Well, that's what's wrong. Do that. Do you know what that is? Well, of course I do. It's a duck. That's right. It's a duck. And that duck is swimming around with my dishman. Well, I know. You know? Well, yes, I put it in there. You put it in there? I did. You did. I did. You put a duck in my dishman. I did. But Andy, well, I found him outside this morning and the fourth thing has a broken leg. Well, so I fixed this plate going. Well, you mean it's a leg duck. Yes, my dear and the homeless one too. So I thought he'd be happier and this wing would heal faster if we gave him a moment our dishman. No, Andy. No, Andy. Don't worry at all. Maybe for a few days. But Andy, you know that Mama's coming to visit us today. Well, how am I ever going to explain to her what there's a leg duck in our dishpan?
Why that simple. We'll tell her the truth. Well, the poor thing is laying in homeless. Andy, Andy, I'll help you. Andy, what's wrong? My captain's dog just changed Papa Pendolone's kit now before. Oh, is that all? Yes, and we can't get her down. Andy, would you come and get the kit down for us, please? Of course I will. Let's go. Then do you can't leave now. Mama will be arriving any better. What's she going to think of your dog? Don't worry about me, my dear. I'll be back long before your mother ever arrives. Yes. Is everyone at Papa Pendolone's house ready for the picnic this afternoon? Oh, yes. The whole household is perhaps going to start making pies and making sandwiches. Well, I'd have to get back now. You may sure send Andy home as soon as he gets that kitten down. I will get back. Goodbye, Emily. Oh. I don't know how I'm ever going to explain that leg up tomorrow. Two tarts beat the drums. Look out your faces.
Here I can see all the hearts. All our guests and care she weighs at least on tour. House lightning. Whoo! The Lord does it. Whoo! Whoo! Keep the thumbs and horns to stop. House lightning. All the hearts and drums. As it's here she comes. Sing it lovely. As we walk. Horns of love. Trons of peace. Love be present. Turn straight forward. Come on. Give my child.
Wait, are you? Mama. Oh, Mama. Oh, Mama. Good to see you again. Yes, you did. Park it over there. My dear. How healthy you know. Thank you, Mama. I'm pretty today too. Do you just love my new girl? Oh, yes, Mama. It's very unique. Yes. My wife is Andrew. Please. Where is that shit? This husband of yours. He's up a tree. Really? Oh, with a kid. I see. Well, he promised to be back before you arrived, Mama. But you know, Mandy, when an animal's in distress, it's Andy to the rescue every time. Oh, tell us. No, Mama. Andy really loves animals. I'm sure you'll be back any second. No, Mama. I'll fix you a nice cup of tea. You can tell me all about your journey.
Ooh, my journey. My journey. As if you cannot find the words to express to you. Ooh. Why you need lips so far out of the country is beyond me. Do you have any idea of the trends and tribulations I had to endure? Let me in. Hey! Hey! I did it!
I changed his beard! I didn't know what he said, Mama. That's just a duck. Just one duck. I don't see any ducks in the kitchen. In the kitchen. What is a duck doing in your kitchen? Swimming in the dish packs. Swimming in the dish packs. Yes, you sit and have a home so Andy put him in the dish pack. Ooh, that is the silliest thing I have ever heard. No, Mama. People simply do not go about turning their dish pans into homes for way with ducks. But the poor thing is a broken wing, you see him. So, Andy made a split for me. Well, I didn't do it. I needed to do it in my opinion. But I'm hyping to do it. And see how tiny things they do. Food crumbs. Oh, look at what I need. Oh, here comes Andy now. Hey, what a tie home too. You're my whole natural. Oh, yes, Andy. She is right here. She is his punctual example, which is more than she can say for a sound. Oh, no, Mama.
I'm sorry, I wasn't here when you arrived, but I had to rescue a kitten. So, I had been too. Well, yes, you see, it was- You know, you need to explain to me. I understand perfectly. You obviously have a great deal more feeling for us to play mongrels than you do for your own mother. You know, Mama. Yes, lady. Noble for all we are. Oh, my old friend. How nice to see you again. Oh, dear lady. Oh, dear. Oh, dear. Please don't be upset with enter, please. You was doing me the greatest of favors by rescuing my kitten. Oh, dear, are you naughty? No. Why didn't you tell me it was panda-lunice? So we'd say we'd say he'd do kitten that wasn't dating for- I tried to-
Why say no more? The situation is suddenly crystal clean. When such a charming neighbor asks the favor for even if you refuse him, nothing. Oh, dear, you're too kind to- Honey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. Yes, Elle, bless us. What is it? Everything's ready for the picnic. All the food's packed into the baskets and everything. Do we go on our picnic now? How did we live in? Are you ready to join us on our little algae? Need you all. I should be ready instantaneously. Laurence! My searching! How about you, mate? All I have to do is get our baskets. All right, Elle, bless us. We're ready to go. Luddy! We're gonna pick that we're gonna pick that. Elle, bless us. Mr. Sandra, please ask for me to tell you that you should go out in the kitchen and take care of that. Okay. What? It will be ready to go on the picnic by the time Emily. Now, plot's us come back. Oh, dear lady. Oh, dear lady. Oh, please, please.
What's in the world? Don't you know that thing? I'm sorry, man, but there's a duck in the kitchen. The best time will away. I know, buddy, swimming around in the dishpan. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. Right, right, right. That's going to go out. Yes, please. One duck is quite so efficient for any else who. Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, I brought Emily and we got everything at the best. Are you going to go with Borovia? Daddy, go with Borovia, Daddy, go with Borovia. Daddy, go with Borovia. Daddy, go with Borovia. Yeah. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. Well, it is. Please, gracious lady. Allow me to apologize for this booby. Ooh, quite unnecessary, sir. Quite unnecessary. I assure you. Oh, for having safe cell plants are spent. Oh, we're already told now, Mother. How about you? Should I always prepare? It's one of my multi-wooza.

Couldn't you see that lion's eyes that you were sending stupid for me? Ooh. I shall think. No. Ooh. Ooh.
Ooh. Ooh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh, my lady. Oh, what can we do? Oh, chipper wrist. I know. I can get a bucket of ice water and we can throw out the old. Oh, dear. Oh, well, what's this up with you suggest such a name? Why, you heartless booby, just wait till I get my hands on you. The heart was only trying to help. Oh, do you? Why, you? You, you, I'll get you. Oh, I'll knock some sense into that nugget of yours. Don't you, daddy, me, you, young wippersman. Where'd I do now? Business booby. Uh-huh. Oh, no, no, dear, Sam. Sam, Sam, he knows no better. The poor mother's boy. Fuck me. And nothing. Oh, dear. He needs a mother to teach him the fine things in life.
Dude, dude, I don't need a mother to teach me anything. What's the stinky route? And for him, it's like stand up, or I'll drag you back up into the woods and let that lie in it. You wouldn't do that to me once again. Oh, my gosh, I said he was only joking. I said he was only joking. I said he was only joking. I said, uh-uh. For my sake. I was only joking. Oh, God, A. Pepper, it's an accident. We know the ones lost on this stinky route. Little e shell. You never had anything to worry about. Could you see that lion's eye? The two-sitters too late for me. I'm the one he wanted to eat. Couldn't you see that? No, man. What? Do you mean no motherhood? You could have seen it. If you had bothered to look into that group, That group's eyes. No man, we're on the beach. We're on the beach.
That group's eyes. The lion egg and he? What? And you're on the beach. What type of pencil on it is true? No, that's okay, be true. I tell you. I know when the lion wants to do it. But no, it's just there there my childhood. You believe a word in it. Even if they say they sold, I'm a big, never woman. And I know that they're too silly that you're lying, didn't go and treat anyone but me. But mom, oh me, you mustn't cry. Why I'm certain that shiftless, I mean, I'm sure Andrew please. All right. But they just said that I don't believe a word of it, and you should die there. Now you, black chalice, tell us exactly what you saw. Suddenly he's flying, I thought of the bushes. You all screamed and ran away. We didn't do it at the last moment. You realize that Andrew wasn't with us so Emily, and I went rushing back to get him. Because they were Andy and the lion. Andy was trying to talk to them all.
And Wendy was suddenly the lion saw us and let out a terrible roar. And he turned around to see what the lion was wearing it. And then the lion popped. Oh, no, they did not try the lion. The lion did straight for us. I thought he was going to go with the false dogs. Oh, it was terrible. And he called for the lion. The lion stopped and started to chase Andy right into the cane. He was scared of us, and he was really bad at once. Suddenly, everything was quiet. Tada's single time came from inside the cane. Then all that once, a great howling and sobbing came from inside the cane. That's what we ran back here to tell you. There, see, what did I tell you? They just suddenly said, he Jesus cleared as the notes on my face. What is dear lady? The truth, dear sir. That's why I didn't eat Andy, and I know it. Oh, you really hope it just happened. Is it Andy's being held prisoner? Her pleasure.
Certainly, the noise the two of you are who's the lion tiny, Andy. Tiny, mama. Don't you see, the lion is only Andy Faroon, some ransom, but my dear lady, what sort of ransom? Really, to lonely, I expected you to have more sense. Me, of course, you, yes. I told you that lion didn't want to eat anyone but me, and now I prude, do you really think any safe that you are? Of course he's safe. All we have to do is come up with some sort of plan to rescue him. Now he must act fast, that lion may get tired of waiting for me. Emily, you take black chilies with you, and goofish the town captain. Yes, ma'am. Bring in back here at once. He may have some helpful suggestions. Madam, you are magnificent. New time for compliments. Now dear sir, you and your son must quickly assemble
all the armor you can find. Honey, there's not a moment to lose. Brilliant, I'm here. Come on, boobie. Uh, there my child. Didn't I tell you there was nothing to worry about? Flossage? Fence me, my armor. I'm lying with you. I'm lying with you. Wait, wait, wait, wait, please, come back. I was only trying to help you. Oh, I'm low, poor fellow. You've hurt your mom. You stepped on a thong, didn't you? And that's a mighty big thorn, too. I better really hurt you. Well, you'll let me. I'd like to fix it for you. Oh, yes, anything. Fix the lines. Want to make it stop her. Oh, I know, poor fellow.
Shall I pull it out for you? Yes. Come on right now. You're not a baby lion. Are you? Oh, no. You're not a baby. Oh, I believe you. I believe you. Actually, I was just teasing. I didn't really mean that honest. I didn't. No. Shall we fix that sore, Paul viewers? Good boy. Oh, my. That's a big thorn. Now, remember you're a brave lion, right? And you promise not to bite your scratch, even if this hurts just the tiniest little bit? I'm proud of you.
Now, make the other paws. Well, friend, here goes. Oh, no. Spay. It doesn't get any hurt your sore, Paul. We'll just one more little pull it out. I'll throw the pot right out. I'm going to be all over. Come on now. Oh, I thought you were a brave lion. Is that what you just told me? Well, then, just one more little little pull and you can live happily ever after. Come on now. Be brave. Oh, no.
No. No, no. No. Just one more little pull. Just one more to show how the big brave lion can bear pain. No. Ready? Here goes. Oh, no. That's it. There you see. It's out. I see what I do. It doesn't really work us. Wait. No. Let me take away all those nasty bad germs. Oh, never lie. Good.
I see one. Oh, man. Oh, man. I see one. Say, that looks like fun. It is fun. And now we're friends, right? Yeah. Here we are. And who would believe it? Here's a star lion. A star lion. Here we are. Here we are. And we're friends.
It's so nice when one's on over. We'll be kindly. We'll be friends. Here we are. King and recover. Here we are. And we're friends. How are you coming up? Yes, sir. Well, then hurry up. Yes, sir. And for heaven's sake, don't drop any of that arm. I don't think that's what I put in here. We'll try. For all of you, man. We're back. Finally. Oh, thank goodness. Don't worry. Maybe everything will be all right. I hope so. Let me help you with that. She's putting on her arm.
She has her own arm. Yes, my neighbor travels with other arm. Make what a glorious creature your mother is. I'm a lady. And I'm going to go and mess up. Wow, look at her. I see. You have little. All right. Good. Now, help flaxes. Why do we wait for the others to arrive? I want you to sort out that hodgepodge into nice neat little pirates. Okay, Chief. How help your hodge spending anything? Don't do it. A lion who takes the eternal iron. Show me that lion. Your service, sir, Captain, how nice to see you at last. Allow me to present to you our noble visitor from Rome, the lady from Ovia. Captain! Your servant, madam.
No time for pleasantries, no Captain! Timmy, have you been told all the fact? Indeed! We're torn a whole story, madam! Are good, that's it, some time! No, Captain, do you agree with my lady? That the lion is all the Andean ransome? Yes! Well, from my best experiences with lions, I should say, anything is possible. The lion is a very unpredictable beast, you know. Well, I'm glad to see that we are in agreement. No, Captain, what do you think we should do? Yes, Captain, what can we do? Well, in my opinion, the only logical thing to do is to rescue and replace. Oh, yes? But how? How? Exactly, Captain. How? That is our problem. And that is, please, safely by we call upon your services. Oh! Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. How? How?
How? How? How? How? How? How? How indeed? That will take some very clever planning. The lion is a very deep beast, you know. Well, yes, but we have it much time. That is true, Captain, every moment is precious. Thank everyone. Thank you. Quickly. Ah! No, that won't work. Maybe we could. Hey. No. How about, oh, idiot, that would never work. I didn't think it would. What if we feel the player at the mouth of the lion's cave and smoke the lion? Oh, how?
No, it would. Right. That would never do anything. Angie might catch on fire, too. Good, what? What? Is everybody thinking of it? No, it's not the name of it. Oh, it's the name of it. Oh, it's the name of it. Oh, it's the name of it. Oh, it's the name of it. The lion is holding anti-prisoner for a reason, right? Right. And that reason is right. And right. Right. That is the lion expects something in exchange for Andy's freedom, right? Right. And I have met something the lion wants in return for Andy, right? Right. Then obviously, the thing for me to do is to give myself up to the lion. Whoa, I didn't have to the lion. It's you. Happy lads, I said, Andy, back. What a good idea. Oh, sorry. You can't meet that. No. That's not quite what I had in mind. It's not new. I shall just pretend to give myself to that lion.
But how, dear lady, very simple, I shall be standing outside the entrance to the lion's den. It's cool for him to come out and eat me. But Mama, what if he does? That's just what he wanted to do. But don't you see? No, I don't see. The rest of you will be hiding around the edge of the cave. And just as soon as the lion comes out, you jump on him and capture him. Then we set Andy free. That just might work. There's a net there. We can use it. Whoa, fit you in better. Quick, man, into your arm. You've got to lie before you get stuck. Right, man, let's go. We got to hurry before you get stuck. Oh, come on, Elk. Let's us. I get a sword. Mama, do you know what? No, maybe it is. It would be better if you stayed here. It's might be.
Mama, I don't need to be disappointed. Now, me, now, come along to the home. We won't get in the way I talk. Every can protect each other. Oh, right. It's any breeze of you. I'm proud of you both. Are you ready, man? Yes, madam. Ready. Ready, winning your day, blue. Forward, march. Coming, go, we're coming. Help me sound the way. Heroes to the rescue. We shall surely save the day. Coming, go, we're coming. Help me sound the way. Heroes to the rescue. We shall surely save the day. Coming, go, we're coming. Help me. Help me. Help me. Ready?
Ready? Ready? Yay! Yay! Yay! Yay! Yay!
Yay! Yay! Yay! Yay! Yay! Yay. Yay. Yay. to the top of that ledge, to the top of the ledge. Correct? Correct. With this net. Then I am to lose a lie in the front of his leg. And a magnificent woman. I've waned the lie in the peers. You've fallen it down on his head. Throwing it down on his head. Then I should don't tie them up and save the leg. Now have you got that? I think so. It's about time. Is everybody ready? One, two, three. Go. Ready?
Ready? Ready? Ready? Ready? Yes, you dance. Of course. I'm always ready. Do be careful, my dear warrior. You must lie. It's me. It's the room I've returned. I've come to sacrifice myself to your new, but appetite. All you need to do is sit and be free. And then come out and do this. How very strange. I bet that lion is sleeping. Why is he brain that hurt? He may be right though. Lions do sleep sometimes. The lion is a very slumber beast, you know. Who's sleeping? Let's make lots of noise.
You might start on him. The lion is a very nervous beast. No. Do be careful, noble lady. Nest a lion. No, dear sweet kind of human lion. Are you there? Nest a lion? You come on right out of there. There's very easy. I think they may not be in there. He's a possibility that must be considered. The lion is a very mobile beast, you know. There's only one way to find a perception of whether or not they are in there.
You don't mean this. It must be. That's so dangerous. This isn't a time to consider personal danger. This is a crisis. This is a crisis. This is a crisis. It certainly is. And your medals captain? No. This is a crisis. Very well. Madam. What's taking him so long? Maybe the lion ain't him up too. No sense. I'm the doin' lion, but sweet. Empty.
Empty. Empty. What do we do now? Where do you suppose they can be hiding? We can't get up in there. Look at the lion. Look at the lion. Look at the lion. Look at the lion. Oh! Oh Oh Well, why are you you were hiding from me?
You want me to quantify Yes, okay ready go one two three four five What Okay, what you boys up Ready
Go Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Yeah, follow you, okay? Oh
Oh Oh Tired now's my chance to be a hero You're not the lie of me. You know you're not the lie gun. That'd be silly of course. I'm not alive. Who are you there? Oh Well, of course it is now who else would it be it's really you you're not playing a trick on me now no tricks my word of honor Your you and I me that Where's the lion? Oh the lion. Well, I thought you were the lion. No, I mean I thought you were the lion
Well, if you're not the lion and I'm not the lion then it's the lion must not be here at all You're not the lion then why did you try to trick me like that you were really scared Oh Oh
Oh God, it's getting pretty late. I'm afraid I've better head on home But if I don't go home pretty soon, they'll be worried You wouldn't want it to be worried would you Of course And I'll come back to visit you sometime. I promise Chris cross my heart and hope to die
Say I've got a marvelous idea Why don't you come home with me and live in our house? You can share the kitchen with the doctor. I could go on to the stove and I'm certain backward mind too much And there's a nice big heart that we can play in I guess you're right Well, you wouldn't have much fun penned up in a yard. Would you? All right, I understand we can still be friends can't wait No, no, no, I thank you for asking but I couldn't come and live with you either. What about Meg? And besides Take care of all my other animal friends by staying here with you
But we will visit each other properly I promise to come and see you I don't know We're high We're high You are and you please I've found you at last We've all been so worried about you. We thought that line But wait just one minute Why aren't you tied up? I don't know. Yes. Have you been laying some sort of drink on us? I might have known I might have known Why are you? Why are you? You shipped this group for nothing and I'm all up I'll take you I'll say something to me Now don't be afraid
I'm not afraid You must never be afraid of animals. That's the secret. Why he's as gentle as lamb once he knows that you're a friend, aren't you? So you must show him that you want to be a friend. Now stand very still and smile. That's right. See? Andy's mama, that was to be your friend too. Now, he must hold out your hand so that he can smell it. Oh, you see, he's really afraid of you and he must be certain that you're not going to hurt him so that he can give you his confidence. Come on, lion. Speak nicely to the lady. I don't miss mama.
I would be your friend. I think you better come down and give me a kiss. He's human. I can't think about anything I could rather do. I'm so happy to be here. I'm so happy to be here. I'm so happy to be here. There, see, mama, not even a child to play with him now. Come on in pain. Don't you move away, no. See how easy that was? Not many people would have the courage to pet a lion.
No, he does take a lot of love. Come here, my father. Oh, let's surprise each other. Okay, he's safe, isn't he? Oh, for sure, aren't you? Oh, good. Thank you very much, everyone. I have tamed the lion. I'm so happy to be here. I'm so happy to be here. I can only say that this wants to be expected with a lion is a very friendly beast. Oh, dear lady, you are indeed an unprecedented phenomenon. But even I must go home and get some rest. There, where are you, are you?
I think it is time to go home. Well, I guess you're right. Are you sure you won't come home with me and live with us? Well, you know what's best. Welcome back and visit you some time, okay? Well, friend, I guess it's time for me to go. Bye. Bye, lion. Thank you so much.
Thank you. Happy ending, happy ending. Happy ending, happy ending. Everyone's friendly at last. Red flower, yellow flower, orange and blue. Oh, what a lovely bouquet. Keep flower, purple flower, cold flower too. Oh, what a lovely day.
To thaw and drink the bells, holler and cheer. Everything's starting out fine. May your days be sunny, day your cares is up here. Wish you a wonderful time. Happy ending, happy ending. Oh, what a lovely day. Happy standing lion sign. Oh, what a lovely day. Thank you. Happy ending.

Description
Episode Description
“Andy and the Friendly Lion” is an original musical play for children based on the George Bernard Shaw comedy “Androcles and the Lion.” Androcles, a meek tailor, removes a thorn from a lion in the forest and later encounters the lion when he, among a group of Christians, is thrown in a Roman arena to be martyred. The grateful lion spares his life and they are both left to go free. The musical is performed by the Area Theater, a project division of KTCA-TV, St. Paul, Minnesota. It was written by Allen Lorensen, producer and director for Area Theater. Music by John Shave, with lyrics by Carolyn R. Fellman. (Description adapted from documents in the NET Microfiche)
Series Description
What’s New is a children’s series that ran from 1961-1973. The early seasons typically consist of multiple segments, each from an ongoing series on a specific topic. Each segment was produced by a separate educational broadcasting station, and the linkage between the segments was produced by WHYY and hosted by Al Binford. In episodes from later seasons the format varies more, with many episodes focusing on one story or topic throughout the entire 30 minutes. (Description adapted from documents in the NET Microfiche)
