He's a dashing guy that you saw on the screen just a few minutes ago not Elvis. This is Jeremy Scahill. He's the executive co-producer of this program. And we're delighted to have you with us what you have done in this production is just phenomenal put together all these elements and it just preserves the music and culture of Elvis for a long time. It's exciting to watch it. You know I've been a part of it and in the studio and in the editing it for so long but now to see it going out on the airwaves is pretty exciting as well. You're telling me something that was rather extraordinary and that is the appeal of Elvis now to the age group and the demographics. Yeah. The exciting thing that we see when we take this big screen show around the around the world that half of the audience 50 percent of the audience are under the age of 35. It's just amazing how well this is continue. Elvis's music continues to live in the hearts and minds of a lot of people Elvis lives and
it's got to be doing that as long as you do extraordinary work like this with the TCB band right there. Oh yeah and Elvis on the screen and had to coordinate that was just phenomenal. It was it took a lot of work and that's why it took so long to get it out. But it was a technical challenge believe me a lot of a lot of different camera shots in the editing. But it's you got it out. Yeah. OK. Call the number on your screen. More of Elvis lives is coming up so stay with us. But right now you need to go to the telephone call the number you see on your screen and support your public broadcasting station is a great reason to do it. It's because this is viewer supported TV and we can't do it without your help. Let's quickly go over in detail a little bit about our thank you gifts at the $9 level we're offering the Elvis live CD. It features 20 favorite songs. Now the song list includes many of the songs that you're hearing right now such a sushi writer Johnny B. Goode which we just heard great version but it's got plenty of extra songs. Mystery Train in the ghetto. Polk Salad Annie. With 30 minutes of bonus songs 30 minutes of interviews it's two hour total concert experience. Now at the $200 level you get the DVD or the VHS of your choice plus the CD can come your way. It's a great way to support public television. It's easy to pledge. Just use the phone number on your screen is a fact. You can even pledge online just go online and make your pledge and support public TV or call the number you see on your screen. All right my friends call that number on your screen. I'm with Joel McHale the co-executive producer of this marvelous program but also a member of the Imperials and you perform with him in which one of these concerts.
Well in the second part the first part is from Hawaii from the Hawaii satellite special. And the second part is from the Vegas years from Las Vegas when we made the. That's the way it is the movie. So you'll see a lot of that and the Imperials were a part of it. But you know let me tell you those are some fun times. Well they had a piano once before we did a show and you were talking about the grand experiences in Las Vegas and how much Elvis cared about everybody that was connected with the show and had such empathy and such such loyalty to everybody there. And in the music I when we edited it we tried to put in the favorites of every everyone you and over the years and you're going to see some really good stuff coming up here. Well you know Joan Lesko keyboard man and vocalist with the Imperials. I think you've done just that you have captured a marvelous potpourri of everything that was Elvis. And I really am fascinated by the fact that so many young people are drawn to the music and to the culture of the Elvis phenomenon. Yeah. And when they come where they come to listen and to learn but they are all dressed up and you can see his influence in the culture as you said the way they dress. I mean you know it was
bigger bigger than life all over the world. His influence was something else. You call that number on the screen influence lives. For your membership pledge of $90 dollars you may choose the Elvis life CD which contains 20 favorite tunes including Johnny B. Goode. Suspicious Minds an American churlishly. How great thou art in the ghetto. And more. A pledge of one hundred twenty dollars will bring you the DVD or VHS of the Elvis lives 25th anniversary special or for a pledge of $200 you receive both the Elvis live CD and the DVD or VHS of Elvis lives the 25th anniversary concert. You know recently there was a poll done by the Roper organization and for the third year in a row. Guess what PBS is again number one in public trust number one and public trust. The majority of Americans think it's very important to have public television and PBS remains the network with the most trusted
news and public affairs program. Is it any wonder it's all here on public TV. But you make it possible and that's why your telephone call and your pledge is important right now. Let me go over in detail quickly about the DVD and VHS. This of course is the concert you're enjoying right now. You can have it for your library but it has 30 minutes of extra concert material but you're not seeing in the show. Songs like Mystery Train. Are you lonesome tonight in the ghetto. The wonder of you I'll remember you all on this DVD and all for a $120 so call now. Call the number you see on your screen. You are telling me a great story on scale because you are with the Imperials on this upcoming segment they do suspicious minds of course you and the Imperials are introduced in this but you are on the stage with him when he does suspicious minds. And how would he go from time to time. Oh my goodness and suspicious minds was. We never knew what to expect because it was. It could be a three minute song or it could turn into a ten minutes on he would carry on that ending
depending on how well how much energy he had and how good at the time he was having and you know he did all these karate moves and everything but he was all over the stage and sometimes it would last maybe 10 minutes and the crowd just loved it. And so you're going to see a really good segment coming up here where you can tell from time to time that this was a performer who just fed off of the the vibrations that he got from that audience and really the adoration of what what he was doing it himself. And I can imagine that this thing could just go on and on almost endlessly. Yeah. And you had to stick there with him now. Yeah. We were there with him we watched his every move and he he'd look over at us just as he said off his group too. I mean we gave him a lot of of our energy to him. What an absolutely phenomenal experience that must have been and what an experience to recapture that all again with so many of the people that were with him at that time. The original cast call the number on your screen. Thank you so much for calling. Now let's go back to Elvis lives the 25th anniversary concert. Don't be too good to.

I go on. I mean. I don't. Know. What. You can. Do. To.
You. When you're watching the show. You're drawn in to this whole law. Of it being a live experience. The big screen in the middle is Elvis and the two sides screens are actually what's going on like I. Do. I. Don't.
Recall. I know. I know. You. Live. With.
Them. And it really is I had the opportunity to see the very first concert held for the 20th anniversary and it is a tremendous live event and it still comes across on videotape as a tape concert. I'm Chris Hardaway along with Jim Eidur and special guest Joe Muskingum of the Imperials who will be here in just a minute. Right now we turn to you. You need to go to your telephones. Dial the number you see on your screen and support your public broadcasting station with your dollars because it's your dollars that make the great programs possible. We can't do it without you. You know PBS is the one place on your dial where you can go consistently for quality programming. Public Television has always been dedicated to nothing but quality being non-commercial. We don't have to rely on. Pleasing our commercial advertisers. We don't have to program to them for commercial purposes. Instead we value the programs themselves and that's what PBS and your public broadcasting station is all about. What a quality program. Hope you're enjoying it if you are. Let me go over some thank you gifts that I know you will appreciate if you're an Elvis fan at the $90
level. We've got the Elvis live CD that's featuring 20 of your favorite as well as his favorite songs at $120 the companion DVD or VHS with 30 minutes of extra concert programming and 30 minutes of interviews and for $200. It's the companion DVD and the Elvis CD. So go to your telephone and call the number on your screen. Music defines us it inspires us. It entertained and PBS has it all. Whether it's rhythm and blues or gospel in grand opera or Broadway it's here whatever you enjoy about music genres. It's going to be on PBS so why don't you call us. Tell us gay of the Imperials co-producer of this show is with me. And you said that Elvis would string out that suspicious mind as long as he could tantalize the audience. That was a short version. And you played the hand it had to go everywhere everywhere where Mark James the composer I saw gave him something and he gave his figure against it that's one of the most requested songs in the show even even then of course you're right.
You know with the Imperials you sang backup and you of course played keyboards and when did you first start with Elvis. Well we got the call from RCA in 66 to work on the how great though our album. And Elvis wanted to have like a choir sound so he had to Jordan Ayres and the Imperials and some female voices backing them and then they doubled those voices so it sounded like a choir and then lo and behold he goes the Las Vegas concert. And there you are and you're sticking with him this basis 11:51 your boss boy. Right now it's coming up in the next segment called the number on your screen. You know one of the mainstays of public television and one of the things that I think as parents or grandparents we like most about public TV and value most is the kids programming PBS Kids has always been a part of public television shows like breakthrough shows like Sesame Street for example or Arthur or Clifford. These shows are made possible. I will remind you by your donations it's your support that makes these shows possible and doesn't PBS do a great job of helping
teach your children helping them grow up ready to learn and to go into school. If you value that then you need to call the number you see on your screen and support your station. It's public television only because you're the public. You've got to support it. You've got to make the telephone call right now. Let me see if I can enhance you by recapping some of our great thank you gifts that we are offering you at the $90 level. We have the Elvis live CD featuring 20 of his favorite and your favorite songs all on this CD at $120 It's a companion DVD or VHS to the program that you're watching right now with 30 minutes of extra concert performances and over 30 minutes of interviews and that's two hours of concert performance on this DVD. And then at $200 you can choose the companion DVD and the Elvis live CD can get both of them for $200. A great reason to make the telephone call and get the public TV. But the most important reason is the great programming and knowing that you're supporting it and helping to pay for it. So call the number you see on your
screen right now. Joe the scale. All levels of giving are appreciated. You know it really is television. On the honor system with PBS and it's what a person can afford is what they pay. And right now we hope that everybody out there will pay just as much as they possibly can because this is a marvelous show. Coming up is going to be how great thou art. And that has to key and one thing Elvis's love of gospel. You know the thing that we appreciated we know the Imperials are a gospel group. We appreciated the fact that Elvis would would give his platform and his stage of every night to gospel music and exposed gospel music to an audience that was your thing of course. Yeah. And it was so good of him. And and in it those songs are so popular sweet sphere and how great the word they're all in this in this you know call now and enjoy it. Yeah. You were mentioning that the one Grammy that he actually was for gospel. He got three Grammys only three Grammys and they were all for all of those guys. Yeah yeah. Of course anti-Sony was just such a grand show for on PBS and gorgeous was our
calling him on your screen we need to hear from you. I'm with you on the scale and we are having a great time talking about the marvelous experience that this had to be putting this together. The technique of having the TCB band they are the people that work there with you. This is all very gratifying. We're delighted to have you with us and delighted that you took part in this. Thanks Jim. I'm glad to be here. Call that number on your screen. It's so important. This is a great show so keep those telephones ringing. Support your public broadcasting station with your dollars to make sure that great shows stay on your television set. Let's go over some of the thank you gifts in a little detail at the $90 level I've been telling you about the Elvis live CD with 20 favorite songs. Now some of these songs you have heard or will hear in this concert that you're enjoying right now songs like Johnny B. Good suspicious minds bridge over trouble water an American Trilogy but there are X-server songs on this CD mystery train in the ghetto the wonder of you. You've lost that loving feeling. I just can't help believing and what now my love burning melody a burning love Unchained Melody. All on this
Elvis live CD for $90 now for $120. You can choose the DVD or VHS of the concert that you enjoy. The 25th anniversary concert special. Are you lonesome tonight in the ghetto. The wonder of you. Plus there's 30 minutes over 30 minutes of interviews that's on this DVD. So make the telephone call now and get one of these. Great thank you gifts. You want to keep it in your library so you can listen to it and watch it whenever especially if you're an Elvis fan. If you have never called to support your public broadcasting station then now is the best time for you to become a new member. New members are so important to public television station they helped broaden the membership base and give stations more money to work with the more money the station has and the budget to work with. That means the more programming they can buy. And programming is what it's all about. It's your investment the dollars that come into your public broadcasting station. Come back to you in the form of
good programming. So that's what the investment names make the telephone call now supports for public television station its viewers support TV. We just can't do it without you. So call the number you see on your screen. Why pledge to your public broadcast station because PBS is dedicated to elevating your quality of life. You know Mr. wodges said that he considered the distance between the TV set and the viewer to be hallowed ground. And that's the way PBS treats it. We're trying to enrich your life so why don't you call right now. Jealous. He was the co-executive producer of this program and the quality of the sound the quality of everything connected with this DVD special. Yeah. You know it's in 5.1 surround sound. So the voice the instruments everything sounds much better better than it was on the original recordings better than anything else they got. I hope they they have that surround sound in their home theater. You it's coming. Turn it up because you're going to really love it.
It's coming from everybody. So go get the surround sound. It's worth it for this. And by all means. Oh and get your your Elvis DVD for this and you can experience that surround sound. That's better than being in the arena there that you didn't have surround sound if you were paying for those seats. You know you didn't in this. This really sound is good. We did a lot of work on this to really bring it up to the State of the art so that when people brought it home that they could enjoy it that the maximum. So that's the property of the DVD that you're about to get. When you call and make your pledge Djalma scale pledges that you're going to enjoy the surround sound effect and even if you don't ask around. And obviously if fidelity is just absolutely marvelous. So call us what you need to hear from you Joe. They use with the Imperials. How long how many years. Well we were we were there a total of six years. And then you know we had to move on. But maybe some the stamps and coins came and they were there until the end. So he always had a gospel quartet around them the Jordan there's the Imperials JD and the stamps so it was a great US insisting on a gospel song with Ed Sullivan when he appeared.
He did. Oh wow. That's something. Call that number on your screen Monty right now. I know you're enjoying the Elvis lives 25th anniversary concert special. So Rietz that hand out and grab the phone and call the number on your screen. I would tell Scahill the executive co-producer of this program which is just absolutely astonishing. You had Joe the Jordan there's the Imperials you had the stamps quartet these giants of gospel and you had
the TCB band Elvis's very own band for all the sweet inspiration all together. What was what was the vibrant feeling there. Well it was like it was like a homecoming. It was like a family reunion. It's like we've never we never left the bus. You know we we just it's a it's a great group. I wanted to Cissy Houston was there you know with Whitney Houston and Gordon Stoeger the original Jordan years. It was just amazing this everybody together and we're just all working for for you know just as if Elvis was there because we want him to be proud you know. And it's just it's great to see this on television because it sounds and looks so good. But you had indicated that that sound technology here is such that much better than having been there in person. Yeah I think so. Well all of the back up folks that were there have just done such a yeoman's job and you can tell that they were so proud of being a part of this. You said it was like you just stepped off the bus. Exactly. You hadn't missed a lick where you been.
You indicated that there's continuity of the experience that was working with Elvis. That has to be absolutely remarkable. And not to make a big deal out of Jim but it is a you know there's about 50 of us that worked with Elvis. I mean it's like 50 out of three billion people. It was a great honor and a great I mean you know it was like the highlight of your life. Of course you had the right place at the right time. How that happened but you'd be in the right place at the right time on that phone call the number on your screen. dividends in the form of marvelous programming and you share your investment with everybody in the community. Are you going to beat that. Can you share something marvelous with us that the length of time this was in the making and the techniques it took to put it together. Talk to me about. Yeah you know it happened in 2002 at the pyramid. That was the 25th anniversary right. Took a long time for us to just be able to to edit it to do the technical work to synchronize everything. And that's why I to tell you the truth Jim we ended that bonus track where you see Ronnie Tutt the drummer. Gordon Stoker Joe Gershwin the conductor and myself and these when we take the show on the road to Europe everybody has questions. How does that happen. He's up on the big screen and all you guys are live in. How can that. So we wanted to answer some of those questions so that this material is one that goes to explain all of that. I'm not going to let the cat out of the bag. We'll have to get the bonus material when you call the number on your screen. Well it's just a marvelous gift.
