The following program is distributed by the national educational radio network. The old record box. This program consists primarily of selections played from cylinder record. Edison frequently called talking machine. These records were issued in a period extending from the late 1890s to 1929. Your host is Brett Harrington. Today you may not choose to accept the invitation extended in the program title. Let's Dave's the music which will fill most of our time available isn't quite up to date. But in its time it served the purpose very well. Just to get. I see
a record for your dancing days. This song goes back to nineteen hundred six when it was written by rend
shields and will. The latter gave up is a salesman career. And that's Givens New York City department store. When the song became a hit to write songs Blanche Reagan introduced the number in the musical His Honor the Mayor the spirit of the town name as well represented by the next lively number. Pick a check on. The John does society orchestra was a popular recording group or Edison having 90 selections issued in addition to this. One can hardly miss the percussion and novelty effects. The composition of dance bands seems to be in constant change.
The next group I suppose might be designated as a small combo. This is a medley Foxtrot titled GA. We don't have much information about the national prominence and but we do
know they did the job to society al little by running their issues up to 97. Out of that number. You may wonder why we picked that tango Tokyo medley. Well that happens to be the one at hand. Most respectable dances of those years actually came to an end at the appointed time
and we suppose many hated to hear the strains of Good night ladies. Apparently some enterprising arranger tried to do better for this final number. As those haunting strains fade away in the distance in the dark we'll
have to drop the lid on the old record box again. This program was produced by Fred Harrington in the studios of W. B. This is the national educational radio network.
