This is music. Classical contemporary and folk music from the Sabbat years festival and the 50th anniversary of Finnish independence celebration in a series revealing some of the current musical activity in Finland. This event is festival of one thousand sixty five and the 50th anniversary celebration of 1967 presented considerable quantities of music by outstanding composers other than Sabbat us and from a wide variety of historical periods. There were also several Illustrated lectures documenting interesting aspects of today's Finnish musical culture. This third series of programs of music from Finland is based on recordings supplied by the Finnish Broadcasting Company for production by the University of Michigan. The Finnish folklore tradition is a
rich one indeed that it embraces both the vocal and the instrumental with almost equal vigor. The instrumental folk music of the Fens performs about the same function for them as it does for almost all other cultures. A compliment for the depths and at times some of it is surprisingly similar to the old time fiddlers with which we in the United States are so familiar.
