You're listening to music by Don give us. This is welcome once again. Thirty minutes in which I seem to be one of each including announcer as a writer and even composer. The one thing I am not unfortunately as a listener but wouldn't you know it down here in Dallas Texas where the school of the arts of Southern Methodist University of which I am chairman of the music division and well wouldn't you know they don't carry the show down here. A lot of culture parallels since the invention of the girl portal is for marching bands. Now this is program number 17 and everybody knows if it is to be done properly it has to be filled up with music by Don gave us and brought to you through the courtesy of our ever loving national educational radio network who
in order not to confuse anyone presents only one composer at a time. But in this case it is me. This week for instance we're going to revisit the scene of a world premiere performance of a work commissioned by the nails vocal music company in Morehead Minnesota. The work called Land of wheat Mr. vocals only requirements were that they work. We written about the great northwestern part of the United States that it be written for a band and that it have its world premiere performance in Morehead Minnesota urged on by they present knowledge that the wonderful United States Army field band conducted by Colonel Chester Whiting would do the first performance. I accepted the commission and the result was the music you're about to hear now played in the actual world premiere performance and the large Coliseum of Concordia College land of wheat is in six movements titled the land and the people. The planting fields in summer are lazy days threshing bee and harvest celebration. And so here it is the world
premiere performance of the land of wheat played for us by the United States Army field band of Fort Meade Maryland under the direction of their commanding officer Colonel Chester Whiting. Land of wheat. Then.
