I'm sure you think I'm saying this only because I happen to be so personally involved in it and you are right. But in addition to the music we have words written by me and also spoken by me. And once the whole thing is packaged up personally by hand here in the music division of the School of Arts at SMU we send it to you at little or no expense. This week we're going to hear three scores of work for flute and Chamber Orchestra and the slope of that but woodwind quintet and a short concerto for piano and orchestra and which the soloist is the distinguished American pianist Joseph Cotten. Our music

begins now as we hear a score played by the Interlochen Arts Academy Orchestra conducted by Dr. George C. Wilson. Once upon a time I heard a concert pianist at a dinner party complaining that there were not enough short concerti especially contemporary ones that could be paired along with say a Mozart concerto. The new ones were all too long for him and my goodness he'd give a pretty penny indeed to have a good short run around. Well I finished my meal as best as I could for I knew that as soon as it was over with I would go to work and write a short concerto that would fill his bill completely. I wrote the concerto right and scored it and copied out all the parts myself but said enough of the whole thing was finished my concerto playing friend had become immersed in playing only the longer concerti and would have no truck with mine at all. I'm not complaining at this point on the stand for if he had played it I wouldn't have a chance to tell the story. He didn't play it just a column of the NBC symphony orchestra did and in

order to have a good orchestra we borrowed one from the United States Navy. Part of the musical unit presided over by Commander Charles Brenner. So Mr. Khan and I went to Washington and made the recording you know to hear in the sail off to the naval gun factory in Washington D.C. And I'll bet you never heard a musical story like that in your born days. I'm glad we did it though for we can play it for you now. The Encore concerto conducted by its composer Don goes with the man of the United States Navy Symphony Orchestra with Joseph conn as soloist. Joseph Cotten has been solos in this performance of the Encore concerto played for

us by the men of the United States Navy Symphony Orchestra conducted by the composer yellow's next week we're going to revisit a world premiere in the music to be heard. It will be the land of wheat a score commissioned by Knowles vocal music about the great north western part of the United States.
