The following composition was chosen to illustrate the organ as an ensemble instrument to follow shortly will be the world premiere of a work for two organs. We pause now for station identification. We greet you again at this gala concert in the nave of the Riverside Church in the city of New York celebrating the completion of the organs of the church in works for instrumental ensemble choir and two organs. The instruments will be played by Frederick
Swan And Donald McDonald. We were to hear the signs of the sun for two organs by Daniel Pink I'm commission for this concert and heard here and it's world premiere. Mr. Pink I'm lives in Boston where he teaches at the New England Conservatory of Music and acts as music director of the historic King's Chapel. He has composed two symphonies as in Mark passion. Several can totters chamber music songs and organ pieces. DANIEL PINK M says of this new work signs in the sun is made up of a mosaic of short contrasting fragments all of which are derived from a single melodic idea of the various sections are unified by the recurring interval of the minor ninth and then over a dotted rhythm a reminiscent of the pomp and majesty of the Baroque French overture rhythm. The title comes from the 21st chapter of St. Luke and there should be signs in the sun and in the moon and in the stars and upon the earth distress of nations. recently deceased Hungarian composer wrote this work in one movement. It was his final choral composition and a particularly fitting tribute both to this occasion and to his life. The music does not contain the religious fervor inspired by his Missa Brevis which was performed at the Riverside Church two years ago include eyes presence and yet it has certain similarities such as the prominent part given to the organ. Mr. Swan performed this work in its world premiere in Atlanta last summer with a school account or M of New York. John Cartwright is a guest organist now with Mr. Swan conducting the Riverside choir.
