Sure. We're listening to a concert by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra under a guest conductor Jorge M. in the second half of the program. We'll hear the Symphony Number two in C major opus 61 by Robert Schumann. The second is humans longest symphony and considered by many to be his most impressive. It's actually his third in order of composition but its predecessor was published much later. Human compose the work in 1845 while he was suffering from the recurrent illness which eventually took his life. In fact he deliberately occupied himself with composing as a distraction from the pain.
Later he described the music as stamped with melancholy and as reminding him of the dark days. The composer offered a kind of programme for the work with his statement that the first movement was full of inner struggle. And he also wrote that it was the resilience of his spirit that helped him combat his illness. This has led many critics to see the finale as the triumphant victory of humans. It's very now 4 a.m. has appeared on stage and in a moment we'll conduct the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the Symphony Number two in C major opus 61 by. A. Yeah.
