Let's. Welcome back anglers. This is your fishing on the fly report for the weekend of April 16th. Things have been pretty decent around southwest Montana for the most part although there are a few places that are getting dirty and probably won't be our first choices right now. The upper Madison is in good shape and has been fishing Well closer floatable but it's still a little bony below burned tree stone fly imitation trailed by a smaller bead head off the back worms and eggs can be good too but don't rule out dead drifting some Sculpin patterns fishing between the lakes has been about as good as anything. Try worms and assorted may fly names. We're seeing some color on the lower Madison over the past week and it's mostly attributed to spring time where really it's nearly always along the river even when it's off color. This is a good time for the heartworms orange bright red hot pink and crayfish as well. The Yellowstone is in good spring green shape with some color coming in from the feeder streams. Our favorite combos over here in the spring are stone finance trailing They fly in patients like copper John's dozen tails and lightning bugs eggs and worms if you're around the spring creeks and of course
streamer fishing is always the ticket in the spring. We're starting to see quite a few heads up now with both images and on the water. You want to have some drives along with you because there are thick potted up in the phone lines. It's definitely spring on the Gallatin and we're seeing good numbers of bugs hatching some swallows around on the water in the valley stretch but know that it's going to be nipping with those guys all of an rust colored rubber legs are always good at this time of year. Dry fly fishing is still been spotty. However on a cloudy day make sure to have some drives along with you. Fishing is decent but definitely better on the lower stretches. Fishing on the Missouri has been a little spotty at times but seems to be getting a bit more consistent now. The stream of fishing has been decent but it's still a little cold so if you go take a tip and go low and slow for the big boys fishing reports on the Jefferson have been mixed and it sounds like most guys have been working pretty hard for a few decent fish. You'll probably see some on the water but with cloudy water conditions the chances of sticking fish on dries is slim to none. If you go take a 7 or 8 wait and toss a big ugly nasty things and
strip away. Otherwise you can Dedrick streamers and San Juan worms under an indicator and hope for the best. A more in-depth report is available at trumpeters dot com. This has been your fishing on the fly report brought to you by Montana trumpeters and it's.
